Heart murmur?

Hello Genevieve, 10 years ago during a medical I was told I have a heart murmur. That was news to me because I had several medicals over the years and nobody mentioned a murmur! So after a few tests I was told one of the valves was not closing fast enough and that's why the noise. Apparently it is something that can happen as we get older. There was no need to do anything about it - we just keep an eye on it apparently. I had no symptoms, I still don't have any. The thing is that once the doctors hear it they have to investigate . I suppose that is the protocol. I forgot I have one until I read your post ?

I was diagnosed with one before my THR had to have an echo before my op but all went ahead with the surgery and it went well. When I had a further echo some years later they couldn't find it. Best it's checked though.

Thank you both. Like you, Teamliquid123, I've had operations etc., over the past few years, but a murmur has never been mentioned. I think that's what threw me a little.

At least I've not had to wait too long for the echo, when, hopefully, I'll know more.

Genevieve , I just talked to another friend who was told she has a heart murmur 12 years ago at a routine check up at work. After the initial test (echo) the cardiologist discharged her saying that one of the valves doesn't shut properly causing some blood to regurgitate ! No treatment was required, she had no symptoms, still no symptoms and was told to contact her doctor if she has difficulty breathing. It is difficult not to worry but as you can see there are a few of us who have been found to have heart murmurs! I hope you feel a bit reassured .

My doctor noticed I had a heart murmur a couple of months ago Genevieve (I'm 70 as well) he did a blood test to rule out heart failure and sent me for an echocardiogram. The result was a slight aortic regurgitation, which means that a little blood is leaking back through the valve. My doctor was satisfied that the murmur he had heard was caused by this and will just keep an eye on it.
