Psoriasis is causing pain and embarrassment, any help?

My DS has suffered for over 4 years with what I consider to be severe psoriasis. He has patches everywhere, some around 20 sq ins. It bleeds and affects what he can wear and also as some dries there is a lot of skin shedding which embarrasses him. His gp has prescribed cream but I really think after this length of time he needs something which actually works. Anyone have experience of this?

My heart goes out to all of you suffering with this complaint. Reading the posts shows how everyone needs or tries different lotion, cream, diet and ointment. It obviously is NOT a one size fits all.It must be a nightmare for the sufferer and also the GP trying to help them. sad

I’m surprised and saddened to see no one on this thread being offered the new biological treatments that are licensed by Nice for the treatment of Psoriasis and I would urge all of you to strongly request a dermatology referral.

Etanercept, Adumilibab and Infliximab are all available to consultants in the UK and there are more drugs in the pipeline.

I have a different autoimmune condition and have worked with the British Association of Dermatologists, big pharmaceutical companies and the health service to improve patient care pathways for skin disorders.

The historical problem is that GP and nursing training includes very little on skin and many aren’t aware of the rapid improvements in effective therapies over the last fifteen years.

Please go back to your GP and ask for a referral.
Sending ? to all who suffer.
