I have osteoarthritis in both knees and have recently had two bad flare-ups, one in each knee. This caused swelling and pain, so much so that I couldn't walk for a few days. I also felt unwell during the second attack, which was a few days after I had a hand operation.
A blood test for gout has come back as normal, although it was taken only a few days after the attack and I understand that it needs to be taken 2/3 weeks later for an accurate result. I also have two kidney stones and have been taking a diuretic for 16 years for my high blood pressure, both of which would, perhaps, indicate gout. However, the locum doctor I saw said that even if the blood test was normal, it may be pseudo gout.
I'll be seeing my usual GP in a few weeks to discuss all this. Just wondered if others have pseudo gout and am particularly interested in how it was diagnosed. My knees are OK at the moment, just the usual pain from the arthritis, but no swelling.
