I have carpel tunnel syndrome which is especially troublesome at night. I have read that a wrist brace can be helpful. Have any GN members used one and did it help ? Thanks.

I have one for my arthritic thumb that the hospital gave me. It's quite soft and it's made by 'Beagle'. However, I've recently switched to one from Boots which is called NEO G Airflow wrist and thumb support. I wear it all the time. It was a bit tight at first but seems to have softened with wear. Not sure if it would help with CTS. The Flexiseq cream that was recommended on here is helping as well but, again, I don't know if it would help CTS.I put Vitamin E oil on my hands at night also, along with lavender oil and take a hot water bottle to bed to use on my achey bits [of which there are many sad].

Why don't you have it treated Nankate? I've had both hands done. Could use my hands straight away and it had all healed up in a week. No more waking up at night, shaking my hands to get rid of the pain.

Babenkate I have had carpal tunnel syndrome in one arm off and on for years but recently it has been really troublesom. Did you find it easy to get treatment? I got the impression from reading it up on the NHS website that surgery was a last resort after going through a long regime of pain killers and exercise.

NanKate Some years I bought a specialist carpal tunnel brace on line. It is a shaped piece of plastic that holds your wrist in exactly the right angle to keep the carpal tunnel and median nerve in straight. It straps on with velcro and I have been using it this week and it really helps.

Thanks All for useful advice. I have only had CTS for about 6 weeks and wonder if it is part of my Polymyalgia and could go when this illness leaves me. I will discuss this with my doctor when I -eventually- get an appointment with her.

I will definitely get the brace and use it at night when I find it difficult to get into a comfy position.

My carpal tunnel developed quite quickly and quite severely as a result (probably) of extreme fluid retention when I developed AF. We (doctor and me) waited to see if it would go when we sorted the fluid out but it stayed a real problem so he went straight for surgery. I had to wait a couple of months before there was a space but not too long. I'd really recommend surgery if possible.
