Bath lift.

I've got a bath lift, installed by SS. I didn't really want one but the assessor said that I needed one even though I manage ok getting onto my knees to get back out.

So, not keen on this lift.

Firstly, the battery ran out when I was undressed, perched on it and waiting to be lowered into the waiting water. A bath in mid air then?

Secondly, DS has taken it out and there was all grime under the stickers already, even though I had not used it and DS has only had a couple of showers in the bath (squashed up because of the lift being in the way.)

Thirdly, I don't feel safe on it.

I am due to get a stairlift off SS too. Would it scupper my chances of getting this if I asked them to take the bath lift back? The woman said the only alternative to the bath lift would be an entire remodel of the bathroom to do a walk in shower room. I don't want this either, I like a bath, I like to warm my back up from the pain but I can't do this the same in a shower or on the bath lift. I can't lie back on it. It's just a case of wash and go!

Hopefully SS would not throw a new bathlift away but fit it in for someone else.

I saw recently a different kind of bathlift, which is a big cushion with back that inflates with a pump - and then deflates- yu can then leave some air in to make the bath comfortable, or let it go down all the way- as preferred- no installation, and of course can be cleaned, as well as bath, very easily. About 500£ though- but this is what I'd choose.
But SS will probably not agree to take one away and provide another ...

DLF's information quality rating
Bathing Cushion Bath Lift
Mangar International Ltd
From £379 (Exc. VAT)

Have a look- on this site it's 'only' - 379. Still a lot cheaper than most other solutions. I think the one I'd try myself if I needed one.

I might need to get something like that soon, I couldn't manage without a relaxing bath every night.
I don't know if it was on GN - did you read about a poor old lady in Southend who was stuck in her bath for 4 DAYS! She kept topping up with hot water. Finally someone who missed her started a search.

What I like about it is that it is not fixed- and the pump is outside the bath- so all can be cleaned thoroughly- and you can deflate totally or leave a little air in for comfort.

Tricia You can't lie down with the one that they gave me, you have to sit bolt upright.

I have phoned the SS today and await a conversation with regard to having a wet room done instead, which was the alternative to the bath lift the lady gave me when she came.

A miniature car wash set up would be good, go in, spray, soap arms come out and wash hair and body, rinse spray, blow dry followed by comfy dressing gown and slipper, wonderful. tchgrin

I do miss my soak in the bath but realised that it would be safer to have a shower installed and the bath removed. I have never looked back. One has to be sensible.

LOL Ruby - love the idea of the carwash! Even better one of those fancy shower pods with steam and coloured lights that you can sit in for hours! I bought my parents a bath lift when they were unable to get in and out unaided and I know you can't lie down in it - also the water has to nearly fill the bath to cover you up. I think I've seen the inflatable cushion ones advertised though and they do look much better. If you have a wet room fitted (SS and council did this for my FIL) you can only have a shower anyway but you can have a stool in there so sit under it which might be better.

Isn't it what they used to do in the old Mental Asylums- apart from the comfy fluffy dressing gown and slippers?

Well, it would fit right in here then granjura, I'm pretty mad most of the time, I do have time off when I am asleep. lol (When I say mad, I don't mean angry, I mean I laugh at my own jokes and do silly things which make me laugh at myself. tchgrin
