Welcome to a new you. This thread is for anyone to post regular updates on their improved health and lifestyle, be it food related, excercise or doing something for yourself which helps your mental health. I started out last September at 16 stones 10 pounds, now I weigh 15 stones 2 pounds. For the first time in years I am going to the hairdressers later. Get ready for No Snack February, there's a few days to eat those biscuits ? or chocolate bar ?. Good luck and I hope I'm not on my own doing this! ?Xxx

I'm a week and a half into my Slimming World journey - joined online as I don't want to go to a group. DD is doing it too. We both need to lose a lot of unhealthy excess weight. Last week I'd lost 1.8 kg but so far this week my weight's been static or even risen a little - and I've been very rigorous! I weigh myself daily and have done for years, to keep track. I'm struggling to exercise more though. Tried aqua-aerobics, but after week two, the soles and heels of my feet felt as if someone had hammered them relentlessly for hours! MIssing out this week because of other commitments. Feeling jaded, guts dodgy, tired and lumpy :-(

There you are - all ready for Monday ?

Cherrytree59 Fri 03-Feb-17 17:28:23

I have posted on the no snack thread
But well done wot
I'm also on the s/world diet.
I did well on it last autumn but then there was Xmas!
I am also trying to do it by myself as our local S/W leader only reads weight loss out and gives encouragement but does not do any helpful talks that I found useful at weight watchers meetings.

Good luck everybody with everything healthy.
smile

Badenkate Fri 03-Feb-17 13:31:42

I don't think we're just concentrating on dieting wot, and congratulations to you and your partner for doing so well! I can't give you a gold star on here - but here's a sun sunshine. I know from lots of other people I've talked to who have tried to give up smoking how difficult it is. And it's amazing how quickly you can see the benefits from stopping!

wot Fri 03-Feb-17 13:21:40

Rubylady, that's a lovely post, thank you! My partner, who was smoking 60 cigarettes until 1st January, got his gold star from the smoking clinic yesterday, for being a non smoker for a month!! I can't believe he's done it! Respect! As they say. I didn't get my gold star because I've had the odd half a fag now and again! Me carbon monoxide level was 23 at the start and now it's 3. I know this isn't about dieting but you helped me before on this thread.(it is about resisting temptation though!)

rubylady Fri 03-Feb-17 00:40:44

Rowantree Don't put yourself down please, the battle with weight loss starts in the head, so saying negative things about yourself isn't going to help. I want you and anyone else who wants to try this to do this and keep doing it. Get a jar, pen and paper. Write down lines like "I am worthy of giving myself time to help myself feel better" and "Anyone would be lucky to have me as a friend, I am a loving person" Write down at least a dozen, cut them into strips, fold them up and put them in the jar. Every day take one out, read it over and over, then put it back at the bottom of the jar. No one should put themselves down, ever. Please be nice to yourself, you only have yourself to depend on and your body only has your good intentions to depend on. Treat it like your best friend, look after it, care for it, don't belittle it, it needs you. ❤️

There was not a lot of choice where we were at lunch-time so I had a jacket with tuna (unfortunately with mayo) and the potato was very large.
Must try harder.
And I have told myself that drinking enough does not mean I can have a glass of wine

Badenkate Thu 02-Feb-17 16:38:51

It is a terrible word, I agree Rowantree - I can't think why they chose it. Don't forget, you can have pasta, or potatoes, or rice with your steak and they don't count towards your syns. SW do say that it is important that you eat these as well, so that you balance your foods.

Rowantree Thu 02-Feb-17 15:36:45

Rubylady grin if you saw me, you'd take back the bit about looking fabulous, but thankk you anyway!!

For me, it's a case of NOT indulging my sweet tooth and substituting other sweet things with sweeteners, so hot chocolate is out for me, as it's very sweet - at least for the time being. Once I've lost the huge blobs of lard I'm currently dragging around with me, I can afford to indulge a bit more. I am using my 'syns' though (TERRIBLE word) and have had the odd bit of cake now and then, plus some wholemeal bread but far less than I was stuffing down before. You're so right about the calcium, iron, Omegas and sunshine (where is it, though?) And drinking enough is important too, of course, as I gather it's easy to mistake thirst for hunger sometimes.
I had a salad for lunch with some pieces of chicken, bacon and avocado - lunch out with a friend at a lovely local cafe which serves healthy food. No dressing. Any snacks will be fruit or raw veg and I will have a small piece of steak and green veggies for dinner tonight. Makes up for my slip-ups yesterday!

How is everyone else doing?

rubylady Thu 02-Feb-17 15:05:00

You all sound like you are taking the bull by the horns and succeeding, well done ✅ all round. Try making some homemade soup or stews for this cold weather, can be had with crackers instead of bread. To fill up a bit and warm up, try a hot chocolate, especially if you are craving choccie, use Cadbury's which has enough sugar in it. I don't have cocoa as I find it to bitter. Don't add any more sugar though and no cream or marshmallows. Try hot cordial to fill and warm up. The no snacking means no cake, biscuits, sweets, chocolate or anything which contains a lot of fat or sugar. Fruit is fine as is semi or skimmed milk, we need our vitamins and calcium. Try food high in iron, lots of veg and try to get out into the sun if you can, get some vitamin D. Eat oily fish high in Omega 3. No batter or chips. Try a tuna salad with warm new potatoes, watch the dressings. Good luck everyone, keep it up, you are all looking fabulous! ?

Badenkate Thu 02-Feb-17 12:02:19

Congratulations KatyK . We should have stars for good behaviour ?

KatyK Thu 02-Feb-17 10:52:36

Thank you Rowantree It's a lifelong condition for me - terrible childhood which I won't harp on about again. Many life events which has made an anxious child into an anxious adult. However, this thread is very encouraging. I went for lunch with friends yesterday and one of them asked if she could buy me a cake and I politely declined. I am feeling very virtuous today smile

Badenkate Thu 02-Feb-17 10:33:33

OK, I've weighed in and I'm exactly the same to 0.1Kg as I was last week.So that's 3.5Kg lost so far or half a stone in January. But I'm happy with that because of the meals out - and that, in particular, was how the weight has gone on over the years. It's been the 2 or 3 Kgs over Christmas, birthdays, holidays that I've never taken off again. Next week however is going to be downward again!

Badenkate Thu 02-Feb-17 08:32:30

Hi Rowantree, I'm doing SW online as well, partly because I found our local group very cliquey. I find it quite reasonable because it's very similar to what we normally eat so the change isn't too great. My weigh-in is today, but since we had 2 meals out this week I'll be happy with not putting any on!

Well done megbelle resisting cakes is hard, especially when at the back of your mind is the niggle that 'I've walked 4 miles and I've earned this'.

Rowantree Thu 02-Feb-17 00:23:56

Hi! May I join? I've just started doing slimming World online, with DD. Don't want to pay to get weighed every week! Nervous as have tried often to lose weight and really need to do it. Only 5 ft and obese - in kgs I started out last Friday (27th) at 79.3 kgs which is horrendous - it's been creeping higher since our holiday in October. I lost a few kgs last year cutting carbs but couldn't stick to it when we came home. So now I'm trying again! Weigh-in is tomorrow (Fri 2nd) and I'm also off to aqua aerobics.
Mental health has been ok for a while, but I'm noticing some anxiety today and I believe I have an addictive personality regarding eating which needs facing. I hate how I look, but even more I hate feeling unhealthy, so the eating is top priority for change - I want to be around for a long time to come! Would be interested to know whether anyone else is doing SW and how they find it. KatyK, I empathise with the anxiety problems - is it over specific things or a generalised anxiety problem? I hope exercise and healthier eating help you feel better about yourself. It's a long journey but a very worthwhile one :-)

megbelle Wed 01-Feb-17 22:41:26

Wow 10 mile cycle. I am in awe

Badenkate Wed 01-Feb-17 15:11:49

Really impressed Madmum - but I do agree with shysal, bike saddles never seem to be designed for women to sit on. I have found very important parts going quite numb! blush
