shingles jab

I've had the pneumonia jab, and next year I shall definitely have the shingles because I remember how ill my mother was when she had shingles - and I've made sure DH has had his as well!

I had the shingles injection just a couple of months ago and I was absolutely fine, it had been postponed because I was on chemo at original appointment. I have had shingles twice and was so ill the last time that I could not face a repitition.

I had it, the jab I mean, when I was offered it at 70 with no ill effects I m not really into routine injections but feel I owe it to my daughter not to get ill as she would be the one having to look after me so I had that and my pneumonia one

Yes I had it last year. DH isn't able to because it is a live virus and he has a compromised immune system.

Thanks everyone, l will go asap. You've all convinced me it's worth having. A friend's husband has had it in his eyes and it's been really bad. I didn't even know that was possible.

I had the jab last year with no side effects. I have had shingles once not long after I had retired. Although it looked nasty I was lucky not having lingering pain for months afterwards.

It sounds like it shysal; sometimes it goes within a couple of weeks but other people say the pain can linger for months.

tiffaney I would have the jab if I could, shingles is miserable.

I had the jab a few weeks ago with no ill effects. A couple of years ago I had a little line of blisters on my waist, with a mild pain. They just disappeared within a few days, so I have no idea whether it was shingles or not. If it was I obviously fought it off.

We have both had the shingles jab at the appropriate time with no ill effects. Friends who have asked for it privately have been told no as there is not enough of the vaccine.H had it at 79 and me at 78.

Is it worth paying privately? I was ill for a long time last winter and worried about getting shingles as my immunity was low but I'm only 68 so ages away from a jab.

Some people are advised not to have it - odd really as they are the people who may be more prone to shingles! The vaccine is supposed to be a live one.

So if you have a compromised immune system for any reason check with your consultant (not the GP!) who knows you best.

I had it some years ago, painless and no problems afterwards. Having had shingles once previously, I wouldn't want it again.

Yes I had a shingles jab a couple of years ago with no problems at all. Go and get one as soon as you can. Shingles can be nasty.
