I had the cortisone injection too. Worked almost immediately and completely. However, I was getting twinges again a month later when I went in for my new knee (opposite leg). Since the op I've had no problems so the doctor was right that it was my the strain from walking badly with my wonky left knee which was causing the bursitis.
I would say the injection is worth a try - although it's not a very nice experience.
