I understood that Vitamin D was one which the body is unable to get rid of so can build up. Perhaps to take it in the dark of winter makes sense, but is it really necessary in summer? Is it just the latest fad?

I take Omega 3 (with a square of dark chocolate it's supposed to ward off dementia!), Glucosamin and Chondroitin for me joints and HRT for my sanity. Should I really take more pills when I do get outside most days and have a too healthy diet?

A few years ago I went to the GP as I was exhausted, and to say I ached all over was an understatement, even my bones seemed to ache.

After a blood test it seemed that my B12, and Vit D were extremely low. I had to have a course of VIT B injections a few a week over about three weeks as far as I can remember, and he gave me a months worth of very high dose VIT D tablets,

It all seemed to work very well. I take a low dose top upo D every day now, and have the B1 every three months. The VIT D never gave me any sort of headache.

Since breaking my wrist a few years back
I've had a calcium supplement and last year it was changed to one containing vit D. Doc says that in our climate almost everyone needs a vit D supplement for at least part of the year because calcium can't be absorbed without it.
Have never experienced headaches.

OH! Sitting out in the sun is sheer joy, isn't it, even for just a few minutes, but going back to the opening post, I did not know that taking calcium tablets could cause headaches, which I have been having, and since my hip op, I have been taking these on a daily basis, no Vit D. but blood tests due soon. I will have a word with the doctor. Thanks for the information.

Prescribing Vit D seems to be the latest craze. have you had blood test Are your Vit D levels low?

I refused to start. I think it is the Magnesium that you can't take. Are your bones weak Have you broken anything?

Its May so I sit out everyday the sun comes out for 10 minutes wihout suncream and read or do a puzzle.
You need 10 to 20 minutes sunshine several times a week to top up your Vit D levels and then your body fills up a depot which takes you through the winter.

Vit D is a hormone and can only be made by the body + sunshine and through foods from animals who themselves were out in the sunshine.
Drink Organic milk for a start and oily fish and try to sit outside when the sun shines.
If you are worried there are tests offered on the internet.

I have begun taking a combined supplement of calcium , vitamin D and Magnesium with Zinc. This is for bone protection but also as it is said everyone should now be taking Vit D supplement.
I have been having awful headaches every single day and DH suggested it seemed to be since I'd started taking the calcium, so I googled 'Can calcium give you headache' and the answer was an overwhelming 'Yes' It described my pain perfectly and it seems there is no alternative.I'm going to try halving the dose and see if I still have it, but I think I may have to stop it altogether. Look what happens when you try to help yourself !!
