Hysterectomy

I have the beginnings of a prolapse, I've seen a specialist and now have the option of a vaginal hysterectomy as I'm not happy or comfortable with the pessary that my GP fitted.
Have you had a hysterectomy? How was it, how long is the recovery time and any thoughts on whether I go for surgery now or wait until the prolapse gets worse (which I assume it will)

I have a silver scar across the bikini area, you'd be hard pushed to find it.
Only thing, it left me with a slight overhang which has got bigger over the 30 years since it was done abs as I put on weight.

I had a vaginal hysterectomy 7 years ago with an epidural and sedation, as I cannot have a general anaesthetic. I think I snored throughout the op.grin I have never looked back and I am glad I got it done, as I was suffering severe discomfort. It did take a wee bit longer to recuperate, but that was because I was allergic to the antibiotics I received in theatre. Just make sure you do as you are told and don't overdo things after your op. I felt like a new woman.

I had a total abdominal hysterectomy for fibroid problems 2 weeks ago. I also had a rectocile prolapse repair, so a lot went on!. I came out of hospital 36 hours after I went in. I felt brilliant the first seven days and started doing light things such as holding washing for hubby to hang on line. From day one the only discomfort was getting in and out of bed and in and out of armchair. It is now day 16 and the sharp razor like pain on one side of my andoman catches my breath when sitting down or getting into bed. Has anybody else experienced this.? I am taking paracetamol and ibroprofen every four hours during the day. When I rung the Ward they suggested I go for a scan. Was doing so well now feel I have fell right behind. Would be grateful for any advice.

Dorset, I was in hospital for a week, I wasn't well at all. I had a bladder repair as well. Gosh, thirty six hours after your op seems awfully soon.

I would get it checked out, even just for your own peace of mind. Better safe than sorry.
I hope you feel better soon. flowers

Thank you am apprentice. Came home today as u/sound, bloods were all showing to be fine. However had a CT yesterday and apparently I have a cyst on my liver! A ormentom through hernia! Now have to get GP to refer me to both hospitals for each problem. Am on co-codomol and feel quiet sick most of the time, they increased my omprozol to 40mg each day. Funny though I now feel ok from all my hysterectomy and rectocle work. I suppose being 3 stone overweight does not help. In the lap of the gods I now have to admit.

I have a vaginal prolapse which is getting worse and I will obviously have to have a ‘hitch up’. My problem - how to go about it when I have a physically and mentally dependant husband. Even with outside help I will have to do some chores.
