Your GP probably using the drug "bible" BNF, which advises the recommended dose of statins for primary prevention of cardiac disease (NICE guidelines) Lucky, have a look? My DH is on a different statin but because of aching legs he discussed with GP who reduced the dosage. I believe that a patient whenever possible, should be able to make joint decisions on medication and treatment with GP, after of course taking evidence and side effects into consideration.

Do you have any side effects?
I probably need to discuss statins with my GP although my consultant is set against them (I see her for something different).
Got to go out shortly so I am not ignoring replies, will check later smile

That's interesting - thanks. Mine was 7 and halved to 3.5 after 8 weeks of tablets.

I am taking the same statins and the dose is 40mg, has been from day one. My cholesterol was 6.7 but with statins stays around the 5 mark. I do have regular LFT as I also had cysts on liver. A reduction in dose is never discussed.

Is anyone else on this? - and if so at what dose?

I was put onto this a few months ago, as my Cholesterol was high, in spite of eating a perfect low fat diet for many decades - I do not eat red meat, eggs or cheese (migraine), milk, butter etc. I live on fish, poultry, fruit, veg etc. - with a bit of stodge here and there!

It has worked well and I am now at 3.5.

However, I asked my GP if I could now reduce the dose from 20mg to 10mg maintenance dose (as my brother has done) and she said that all the evidence indicates that 20mg is the best maintenance dose. I am a bit concerned about this as I have bile duct problems and my liver enzymes have occasionally been a bit haywire.

Anyone have any useful comments on this? Thanks.
