I had this done just before Xmas at least an 'attempt' was made to do it. The consultant was unsuccessful on the first attempt so then injected my cervix three times with anaesthetic which was eye watering to say the least. This still didn't work so I had to have a general anaesthetic which was painless and a quick recovery - quite a lot more expensive though (for the NHS).

Does anyone have any experience of this procedure? My SIL underwent this yesterday and said it was one of the most excruciatingly painful experiences she's ever had. I've done a bit of poking around online and this seems to be a common experience. Why is this not carried out under some sort of sedation? It seems to be a totally barbaric practice.
