Last night on R4 there was a discussion on Omeprazole. It would appear to me that everyone in the UK over a certain age is on it. Anyone i speak seems to be prescribed it.

I discussed with my Dr, I had been proscribed for bleeding from the stomach, silly me Iboprufen was the cause, and I no longer use it.

Started @ 4 tabs,20? mg dose, now down to 1 , all the medicals on the prog were considering cutting down.

I wonder hoe much it costs NHS?

Oh Blinko, you have extinguished my flame of hope. I am waiting to get my gallbladder removed and I thought I would be able to eat a normal diet after.
Must admit though I have sneaky suspicion I have more that gallstones as the pain is in one place and the burning feeling in another.Scan never showed anything else though.

I had laryngo-pharyngeal reflux caused by excess stomach acid getting into the throat. My vocal chords were affected to the extent that I had constant laryngitis and a perpetual cough. The ENT consultant prescribed Omeprazole plus Ranitidine and Gaviscon Advance. That was around 8 years ago and has been a complete success. I don't have any side-effects from Omeprazole but when I experimented with stopping it for a week to see what happened, I had a recurrence of acid reflux.

because I have to take a wide variety of different drugs, I was on Omeprazole for several years. My doctor then changed it to Lansoprazole and I certainly know when I haven't taken it!

Mammabear, it's only recurred once in a year, so may not be a huge problem. Mine has never seemed to relate to anything I have eaten. the last episode was after I'd eaten nothing for over 12 hours. I think most people are cured (if that's the expression I want) for good.
