Trusses

My OH has bilateral inguinal hernias which come out and cause pain. He cannot have surgery because of his poor health (PD, heart arrythmia, very low weight)- he was told by the consultant that trusses do no good, but things are getting worse and, in the absence of surgery, we need to do something.

Does anyone have personal or spousal experience of these?

DH had one prescribed by the GP when he was waiting for a hernia operation -just one side.
It was rather a contraption but it did work; it seemed to be made of leather or leatherette with what must have been a metal plate or ball to push the hernia back in place and padded with sheepskin.
It did set off the alarms in the airport scanners and he got taken and searched more than once but he wore it for some time and couldn't have managed without it.

Thanks for that info. Do you know what make it was?

Might encourage DH to talk to GP about it all.

I can't remember and I'm not sure if he discarded it afterwards.
It was a while ago, about 12 years, and they must have improved since then too.
It was a bit like this but they must do neater ones now. It was provided by the NHS, but was only one side as in the picture.

Thanks for that. It looks like a castration device! He is going to talk with GP again. Mind you he is so thin he will probably need a child's one!
