Had an appointment with my GP about test results for high BP and she was happy to tell me I've managed to reverse my Diabetes diagnosis and took me off my Metformin. I'm very happy that losing the weight and buying no added sugar foods and drinks seems to of done the trick. Of course I'll always be prone especially if my weight creeps up again but for now I'm a happy bunny.

Well done tanith I have done the same. Not easy is it? But so worthwhile ??

ninathenana Thu 26-Oct-17 18:04:38

Well done ? not surprised your delighted.
I wish I could shift some weight but despite having done the same as you, I cannot.
Although I don't think I could reverse my T2. I've been on meds. for 6 yrs.

Huge congratulations ?
You need to be feeling very proud of yourself right now.
You can remain in charge with good food and a bit of exercise too. Well done xx

Well done ladies - my friend managed to do that - I am trying to lose weight in the hope it will help my Blood Pressure.
We have just spent about a month in the UK visiting various family members. Usually with all the going out and eating fancy meals I put on acouple of Kilos but this time I managed to lose one!! I am so pleased!!!

Brilliant ! It is difficult though. Carbs definitely the thing to reduce. Some one said type2 should be called carbohydrate absorption disease.

Iam64 Thu 26-Oct-17 19:28:39

That's great news tannish. I reduced carbs a couple of years ago and went from pre diabetic to normal range in about 3 months. I'm not overweight and I exercise regularly but I do have various auto immune conditions which my GP said were the cause of my higher sugar ratings. Not fair! I suspect when I'm tested again, I'll be up but you are so right, it's worth reducing carbs and cutting out additional sugar (it's just so much easier to carry on eating rather more than we need)

Congratulations to you all.

Well done - it takes self-control and determination - respect!

Can any of you remember the F Plan diet all full of high fibre. I really enjoyed it but I suspect it would not pass the carbs test now. ?

My lovely best friend was insulin dependent. She started really taking care of herself and lost shed loads of weight. She was put onto oral meds. She continued to eat well and lost even more to the extent that she doesn't need tablets any more. Her blood pressure came down and doesn't need tablets for that either. Much of our ill health really comes down to our lifestyle choices. We go for out pills to treat our symptoms, rather than address the causes of our ailments. I have high blood pressure and I know tablets will bring it down. However, what the good doctors should be saying is lose that excess weight you're carrying so that is what I'm doing. I do realise that not everyone falls into this category;this is aimed at those who can do something about it. It is hard but a huge well done to those that have done it.

Well done Tanith - shows what a difference we can make to our own health with determination and hard work. May I ask how much weight did you lose?

Mamie Fri 27-Oct-17 07:21:47

Brilliant news tanith. OH reversed pre-diabetes with low-carb and is still at the same low level three years later. I lost three stone and am still off BP tablets after two years. It does work!

tanith Fri 27-Oct-17 08:13:04

Thanks everyone it was hard work but I suspect keeping the weight off is going to be harder. I lost around 2st in 3/4 months but already it's started to creep up again and we are going away next week where there will be more food than we can eat so I'm already dreading the temptation but I am determined so I shall make sure I choose wisely what I put on my plate. I found using a smaller plate/bowl worked for me.

If you're faced with an array of food it could be a good thing as there should be a wide variety, so you can choose wisely i.e. go for the fish & meat and leave the stodge to others!

It’s lovely to hear a positive result. Well done, not only will you feel much better but you’ll have saved the NHS quite a bit of money over the coming years. God knows, they need it.

Well done tanith and BB

I’ve just been staying with SiL & BiL ‘up north’ and she’s been put on low carb by her GP. It’s been over a fortnight now and she’s complaining she hasn’t lost anything. I’m not surprised. The amount of fruit she’s eating for a start and there’s bread in the bread bin, low fat yoghurt and thickening soups and stews with corn flour and piles of root vegetables.

She knows I’m low carb so nothing, eg the bread, was specially bought in for me.

Like Tanith & BB have found out it’s no use unless you really take it seriously and work hard at it. But the results are definitely worth it.

Thanks Anya

tanith Fri 27-Oct-17 14:26:36

Thanks Anya the only draw back was I am finding my clothes are too big and trust me I never thought I'd ever say that grin

Anya Fri 27-Oct-17 14:37:24

I have had to get a whole new wardrobe. Bra and knickers too. Just bought a lovely grey velvet dress for Christmas , I am being much more adventurous. Hope you enjoy all the shopping* tanith* ?????

Great news but be careful of consuming too many sweeteners.

Sweeteners? Never use them. Most everything I eat or drink is unsweetened. except for fruit.
