Had an appointment with my GP about test results for high BP and she was happy to tell me I've managed to reverse my Diabetes diagnosis and took me off my Metformin. I'm very happy that losing the weight and buying no added sugar foods and drinks seems to of done the trick. Of course I'll always be prone especially if my weight creeps up again but for now I'm a happy bunny.

Well done, so proud of your hard work- you've proved we can do most things if we try hard enough.

I basically follow Atkins which the much vilified original low carb diet and it makes me chuckle now that everyone is on the low carb bandwagon! Even when I lost 4 1/2 stone people were telling me what a terrible diet it was. grin
Of course, over 10 years I slipped and put it back on but back on A and 2 1/2 off again. I want to lose another 3 1/2 by next August, for DD 's wedding.

Wow! Well done. I know a lady who reversed it by having a gastric bypass but it's very impressive it can be done by willpower and hard work too.

That is really good news tanith and BB.

tanith at this rate you will be nipping back to work part time to pay for your clothes etc. especially now you have a new hip to match the other. You have done really well.

As far as I can gather taking sweeteners in moderation is fine. I think with one research several thousand were taken on the same day that would be impossible in a normal household.

I am not suprised. I think it was Newcastle University that did a lot of research on this a few years ago.

For anyone on here who is interested in the science behind this .

Well done. And one in the eye for saying that being large is an illness in itself.

You can enjoy buying all the lovely new clothes now and will look great in them.

Ninathenana try reading the blood sugar diet book by Michael Mosley. You will find you can reverse your type 2 diabetes and lose weight following this way of eating even if you have been on medication for 6 years.

Very well done to you all!
Never say never ninathenana. We look forward to your reduction too. You can do it :-)

Went low card.....not no carb, took up regular exercise and the weight comes off! You have to be honest...write down what you eat using an app like fitness pal and you will get results...i am in my 60 and thought i would always be overweight. Good luck with all your journeys....

I've been going to Slimming World. One of the ladies in the class felt she was losing very slowly, but when she went for her annual MOT, her GP told her that both her diabetic levels and her blood pressure had improved. Well done!

Theoddbird Sat 28-Oct-17 09:41:09

Well done. I did as well. I lost 21 lb and blood tests showed I did not need the medication. I have regular checks and all is well after two years. I remember asking the nurse at the Desmond meeting I went to if it was possible to get off of the medication and she said I was on it forever now. I was determined I would not be....

Congrats Tanith (and everyone who’s on this journey). My DH was diagnosed Type 2 a year ago and we’ve been doing low carb and sugar ever since. I’ve lost a stone and he lost 2! They are amazed at his check ups and he’s classed as pre-diabetic now. I’m amazed too because I’ve been trying to lose weight forever, and I’m really enjoying the food. Only problem I have is it can make me a bit constipated, so working on trying to avoid that! (Too much info Caz?)

Sweeteners? Never use them. Most everything I eat or drink is unsweetened. except for fruit.

Great news but be careful of consuming too many sweeteners.

Thanks Anya the only draw back was I am finding my clothes are too big and trust me I never thought I'd ever say that grin

Thanks Anya

Well done tanith and BB

I’ve just been staying with SiL & BiL ‘up north’ and she’s been put on low carb by her GP. It’s been over a fortnight now and she’s complaining she hasn’t lost anything. I’m not surprised. The amount of fruit she’s eating for a start and there’s bread in the bread bin, low fat yoghurt and thickening soups and stews with corn flour and piles of root vegetables.

She knows I’m low carb so nothing, eg the bread, was specially bought in for me.

Like Tanith & BB have found out it’s no use unless you really take it seriously and work hard at it. But the results are definitely worth it.

It’s lovely to hear a positive result. Well done, not only will you feel much better but you’ll have saved the NHS quite a bit of money over the coming years. God knows, they need it.

If you're faced with an array of food it could be a good thing as there should be a wide variety, so you can choose wisely i.e. go for the fish & meat and leave the stodge to others!

tanith Fri 27-Oct-17 08:13:04

Thanks everyone it was hard work but I suspect keeping the weight off is going to be harder. I lost around 2st in 3/4 months but already it's started to creep up again and we are going away next week where there will be more food than we can eat so I'm already dreading the temptation but I am determined so I shall make sure I choose wisely what I put on my plate. I found using a smaller plate/bowl worked for me.

Brilliant news tanith. OH reversed pre-diabetes with low-carb and is still at the same low level three years later. I lost three stone and am still off BP tablets after two years. It does work!
