The best exercise

According to my newspaper yesterday the very best excercise we can do is to stand on one leg foe 90secs.
I had heard this before so I do it when I’m cleaning my teeth.
The electric toothbrush is a great timer.
Anyone else out there having a wobble in the morning and a wobble in the evening?

Always remember that besides exercising the body needs a healthy diet and to stay hydrated. To start building muscle mass I recommend sunestron supplement.

Hold on- no I don’t mean literally!
Today’s best exercise is push ups. At 64 I am supposed to be able to do between 5and 8.
I’m sticking to once leg.

Which is why we were made with two legs.grin

I tried this today, can only do about 30 seconds ( which feels like a long time!)

Bellasnana Tue 21-Nov-17 20:36:56

This sounded easy, I thought. It isn't shock

Willow500 Tue 21-Nov-17 20:27:01

Maybe I need to try this - my balance is shot - I bent down to pick my slipper up from under the desk today and ended up flat on my back having leant on my office chair which skidded across the laminate floor taking me with it - banged my shoulder on the wall unit and threw my coffee over my lap grin

Since this thread started I have upped my time from a count of 30 to one of 60 and may try to close one eye. I have to fix my gaze on something still - today there were blue tits in the garden and I couldn't help watching them - disaster.

Don't like the death bit. but will follow up the link. Like your other poster, can I still really be here?

I’m trying the one legged thing whilst cleaning my teeth. I have to admit I steady myself with my stomach up against the wash basin ?

Tegan2 Fri 17-Nov-17 17:32:42

I think I'm ok with the hand thing because my tooth cleaning hand is different to the one I use to hold/lift my cup of tea.

goldengirl Fri 17-Nov-17 12:08:08

Sounds worth a try - and it's cheap!!!

Thank you Luckygirl for giving me a laugh this morning, love your joke and Devilsdumplings response.

Wherever did you get that name DD?

Magzi111 Thu 16-Nov-17 19:01:36

Don’t know if this has been posted but have read that it’s good to stand on one leg cleaning teeth with the hand that you don’t usually use. Makes the brain work harder. I Try to do this regularly. Try it.

rubysong Thu 16-Nov-17 14:28:43

I did!

Rosieroe Thu 16-Nov-17 12:59:12

I am wondering how many tried standing on one leg while brushing their teeth this morning.... grin

Roxannediane Thu 16-Nov-17 12:20:29

I had a hip replacement 2 months ago and one of the exercises the physio gave me was to balance on one leg for as long as possible - helps rebuild the thigh muscle.

PamelaJ1 Thu 16-Nov-17 09:06:56

Picking up all sorts of tips here.
Am now holding tummy in Jalima.
Do you think that starting on a different leg every day will reduce the risk of dementia??

M0nica Thu 16-Nov-17 07:09:35

Jalima, If only...grin I am dyspraxic.

Grandma2213 Thu 16-Nov-17 00:53:28

I can stand on one leg easily with no shoes on but at Zumba wearing trainers it is impossible!! As for closing the eyes I think is a con trick. I have practised and practised and still can't manage more than 5 seconds. Granny23 I will try pressing my nose. wink

Granny23 Thu 16-Nov-17 00:37:01

I can do it with my eyes closed but only if I press the end of my nose hard with a finger. Try it and see if it works for you.

seacliff Wed 15-Nov-17 20:22:05

Oh dear, I'm older than I thought from that link. Depressing. I knew my balance was bad, thanks for this reminder. I'm really going to try and do it regularly when watching tv.

bikergran Wed 15-Nov-17 18:56:23

Will try it tonight whilst out Line dancing and holding on to my horse, lassoing the nearest steer and drinking my glass of coke.......

Ronnie Wed 15-Nov-17 18:35:27

Doing it with your eyes closed is much more challenging! Good if you can though.

Ronnie Wed 15-Nov-17 18:33:24

My Pilates teacher encourages the class to do this when the opportunity presents its self. While cleaning teeth is good as you have the basin in front of you if you get a bit of a wobble on. You very quickly get better at it. Really helps with improving your balance. Even if you need to steady yourself by putting you fingers onto the worktop or the wall, it’s all good, reducing your chances of taking a tumble.
