Fennel
I have an underactive thyroid and put on a lot of weight but now back to normal. But ......a friend of mine has lost a considerable amount of weight and we finally, after much encouragement (nagging), got her to go to the doctor a couple of months ago. After blood tests it was discovered that she has an overactive thyroid and is now on meds to get her back to normal. Now that she knows there is a problem but can be dealt with, she is back to her old chipy self and tucking into doughnuts at the deli with gusto.
Please, please see your GP.

Fennel, this year I have gone from size 10 to size 6 , had many blood tests, chest x ray.

My goal is back to size 10 and as I am 5.7 would love to be a size 12 ?

I have the added problems of an ulcer and IBS, this means some foods are out for me.

If I can put on enough weight so size 8 trousers are tight my younger daughter said I can have a puppy , trouble is I have lost more weight this past month so the puppy is becoming just a dream.

Worry and stress can certainly cause loss of weight, this is the third time for me

Have a check up, could be thyroid problem, this was the first thing my GP checked for me.

farview, the loose skin is so depressing isn't it,

We will get that weight back ?, fill our skin and trousers

I was 11 stone 12 and within six months went to 8 stone 2 . No wonder my poor Dad was panicking x

Yes as soon as I looked up the side effects of mine, it was nausea and weight loss. Made me feel a bit less worried but still went to docs. I never go normally .Got to be on the safe side Chuck.

Annie I'll certainly join you. And NannyTee I've had some change of medication lately because of various symptoms.
I think it's also connected to worry, which you've had plenty of, Annie. We're in the middle of a difficult house move which neither of us really want to do.
As silverlining says, little and often. Plus high calorie food such as nut spreads: peanut butter, hazelnut spread and Nutella, which is in the news lately as the makers have changed the recipe.
Our scales have broken, so I'm ordering a new one off Amazon. I've been 55kg for years, now down to 52-3. So aim to go up a kg in a month.
I will go to the doctor though.
Thanks to all for the support smile

Get it sorted Fennel. My poor Dad of 82,(at the time ) was convinced I had the big C. He didn't tell me till after I'd got the all clear. Broke my heart as I'm a bit of a Daddy's girl blush

I have morning sickness symptoms everyday. Yuk.

NannyTee Fri 01-Dec-17 15:39:41

Same here but apparently it's just a change in medication .Had to have all bloods done though .

There are several reasons for loss of weight and feeling the cold certaintly comes with weight loss.

Have a check up, could be thyroid , stress, loss of muscle, a number of things , does not mean loss of weight equals cancer . A check up will take away such fears Fennel

Join me in the battle to increase weight, I am a lone voice here ?

I agree with every word that humpty has said- make an appointment for next week- pleeeease!

Fennel, if this weight loss has happened suddenly, please don't wait til 'next time you see him' - you can still be feeling well and have cancer if you have started losing weight for no reason. I really don't want to alarm you - but you should get checked out sooner rather than later, just to be on the safe side.

Fennel Fri 01-Dec-17 14:53:38

You're right, I'll mention it to him next time I go to see him.
I'm feeling well, TG, but we've suddenly had a change of temperature, and noticed how the cold affects me now.

Fennel another one saying visit your GP

Walks away muttering "wish I was too thin"...........I don't really of course, not if it came with any ill health.......

silverlining48 Fri 01-Dec-17 14:10:35

Little and often fennel.
I have the opposite problem....its a struggle to keep the weight off. So I avoid cakes, pastry, biscuits, desserts of any kind. Perhaps try some of those. It always works for me. One sniff and i have put on another 2 lbs. good luck go you and maybe a trip to the gp might be an idea.

chelseababy Fri 01-Dec-17 14:05:11

Yes definitely see your GP

humptydumpty Fri 01-Dec-17 13:10:43

Fennel, if your weight loss has come on suddenly, it would be a good idea to get a checkup with your GP.

Fennel Fri 01-Dec-17 13:01:25

Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones, but I'm getting a bit concerned now.
I've always been slim, my parents were both very thin too, as are most of of the family.
But I've noticed recently that I' seem to be getting thinner, and I feel the cold more.
I would like to put on a bit of weight, so what foods are good for that?
I quite like a 'fry-up' but otherwise not much fried foods.
