Did I miss a post by Charleygirl? Olk Meg referred to her opinion, but I don't see it.

I hope so Baggs

I think more media space is gradually being given to this issue. Hopefully it will help change attitudes and understanding as well perhaps as giving research about it greater funding. I think progress is being made, if slowly.

Thank you MamaCaz

MamaCaz Thu 28-Dec-17 19:34:27

Hear hear OldMeg.

charleygirl you too think this isn’t a suitable topic for discussion? Better by far to have a slanging match about politics or religion.

Interesting forum if that’s the case!

Am I right in thinking that Fennel didn’t realise that dementia is life threatening? Too many think of it as a sad condition that affects our cognition, but not our health I suspect.

Thankyou bridgeit, thats kind if you. If i am lucky enough to avoid this i will kick myself for wasting so much time worrying.

Bridgeit Thu 28-Dec-17 17:46:04

Sending a big hug, Silver, hope all will be ok for you.

My great fear, both parents died of this cruel disease and i have had an abnormal brain scan.....and so forgetful. Just waiting and hoping that this wont be my fate.

Wasting away by the inability the eat and drink
Although a drip can be used for fluids
All in all a horrible undignified end of lifesad

My Grandmother and Father both died in this manner.

I would have been arrested if I had allowed my little Manchester terrier (which also suffered from dementia) to die in such a manner. We were able to give her a painless dignified death.

MamaCaz Thu 28-Dec-17 16:20:30

One way can be through loss of the ability to swallow, Fennel.

Bridgeit Thu 28-Dec-17 16:19:35

Sadly ,Slow deterioration of everything I beleive

Fennel Thu 28-Dec-17 16:14:33

So how do Dementia and Altzheimers disease cause death?

Charleygirl Thu 28-Dec-17 16:07:53

Luckygirl you took the words out of my mouth!

OldMeg Thu 28-Dec-17 15:29:20

My thought exactly Kitty

Also it’s not receiving the proportion of research funding it ought to have, given this statistic.

Anniebach Thu 28-Dec-17 15:26:23

I thought it was Friday !

kittylester Thu 28-Dec-17 15:24:49

It is because we are living longer and because other health problems are much more easily managed/cured.

Highlighting it might stimulate people's interest in early diagnosis and research.

OldMeg Thu 28-Dec-17 15:18:12

Makes a change from reading threads about Christians being thrown to the Atheists Luckygirl and a damned sight less contentious tchwink

Luckygirl Thu 28-Dec-17 15:14:00

And a happy New Year to you too! grin

Dementia and Alzheimer disease has replaced ischaemic heart diseases as the leading cause of death in England and Wales, accounting for 11.6% of all deaths registered in 2015.

Ischaemic heart diseases was the second leading cause of death in England and Wales, with 11.5% of all deaths registered in 2015.

For males, ischaemic heart diseases was the leading cause of death accounting for 14.3% of all male deaths in 2015, compared with 14.8% in 2014.

For females, the leading cause of death was dementia and Alzheimer disease accounting for 15.2% of all female deaths, up from 13.4% in 2014.

But this is because we’re all living longer apparently.
