Thank you for the replies. Seems it could be a while yet! I do have blood tests every 3 months, the results of which are very up and down.

Mine lasted nearly 5 years. In reality, I think it was less than that but I didn't get very good ongoing care from my surgery for over 4 years. I was largely left to my own devices, with repeat prescriptions for prednisolone being signed and dished out like sweeties. Then a new GP joined the practice and she was shocked to find I was still on medication after four years, so she helped me to come off it, ordering monthly blood tests and follow up appointments. I finally came off the meds 3 months short of 5 years after diagnosis. I've not had a single twinge since.
Please shysal make sure your GP is on the ball with your treatment, and push for regular ESR and/or CRP blood tests to measure how the condition and treatment is progressing. I feel rather silly now that I allowed it to go on for so long.

I haven't had it, but my mum did, in her 70s. I believe she had it for a couple of years, taking varying levels of steroids until managing to taper off completely. It's a rotten disease, so hope yours soon clears up, shysal.

My PMR lasted 6 years. I had to raise the dosage of prednisolone a couple of times when my blood results weren't satisfactory. I took the last tablet 7 months ago and haven't looked back. Good luck, Shysal with tapering your dose, but don't rush it, because that often leads to disappointment.

I have been suffering from Polymyalgia Rheumatica for nearly 2 years now. A few months ago I thought it had left me, but it later came back with a vengeance. I am getting rather fed up with feeling like an old woman (I am 71), having previously been fit and active. I understand it sometimes burns itself out after 2 years but it can be longer. What are/have been your experiences?
