Awful dreams

I've had several occasions (including last night) where I fall asleep but dream that I'm awake but totally paralysed. I try to call out but my words are just a garbled whisper. I looked up sleep paralysis but it said that only lasted about two minutes and I know from looking at the clock that it lasted 25 minutes. The horrible thing was, I didn't know I was asleep. I was too scared to go back to sleep. Even when I woke up, the only way I knew it was a dream is because my ex partner came into my bedroom and I was trying to tell him I thought I'd suffered a stroke. Scary enough to give me another episode with my heart.

Wot you have a lot on your mind at the moment so disturbed sleep is not surprising, but I think you should explain all the symptoms to a doctor. There may be a medical issue, it may be connected with whatever medication you are on or it may be stress related.
Either way, please do not ignore this, you have clearly been frightened and you need to keep your stress levels as low as you can.

Yes, I'm stressed up to my eyeballs at the moment about that unfamiliar drive to have heart rhythm monitor put on and then back the next day. Also, there are weather earnings for tomorrow. The hospital took me off my Prozac as it can affect the electrical stuff in the heart, but I have not missed taking them. Honestly, advoidance seems the stressbusting way to go for me. Im angry at myself and others will be angry at me as well. Arrrgh!

Ex partner comes twice a week to see Sophie dog. He can't drive any more. He will go balistic if I don't go as he can't understand anxiety. Easier to shut the door on him and pull up the drawbridge. He calls me a drama queen anyway.

Since taking Diclofenac my dreams have been vivid and horrid but the benefits in the day make it worth it.

I have nightmares on atorvastatin and intend to talk to GP about it - it is a known side effect. Are you on a statin?

wot Sun 29-Apr-18 16:08:07

Yes, Lucky! I was on the smallest dose but the hospital put me on the highest dose on 24th March. I didn't read the leaflet though! Ill see if I can find it. I wonder if it increases appetite too as ive really been hungry lately!

Simvastatin affected a friend like that. I've never had that problem with Lipitor (atorvastatin).

Ask your doctor about a different statin

It does sound like general anxiety, wot. but could be medications too.
Reminds me of a time when my ex had just left, TG, but I used to wake in a cold sweat thinking I could hear heavy breathing at the side of the bed.

I've had that. especially if I fall asleep on the settee. I can hear someone ringing the doorbell (in my head) but when I try to get up. I can't move. I am forcing my body to get up but it won't. I also think there are other people in the room but I can't communicate with them. I think it's anxiety. I haven't had this for a long time but I agree it's horrible. I think it's just a passing thing wot

I know my life is filled with anxiety whilst my long term health issues mean I am constantly taking a mixture of medication.
Whilst I too suffer from very unpleasant vivid night mares.
This is almost on a regular basis and of course very disruptive of a good night`s sleep.
I find in the mornings that the whole dream usually bears too closely to matters going on in my life, and I feel shattered, totally spent.
Have even had vivid hallucinations...... though this can be linked to specific drugs administered in a Hospital setting.
It is extremely debilitating to say the least.
Although medication has been systematically changed or decreased accordingly,it is something I can never quite get real freedom from.
So even if I cannot offer advice I can certainly offer sincere sympathies and understanding by the bucketfull Wot..........and to all those whom suffer, if only now and again.

I do have and always have had a very active mind,so I guess this partly fuels these dreams..........or nightmares.......because they tend to be far from pleasant.

Simvastatin caused me to have horrendous nightmares but GP changed prescription to Atorvastatin, he explained over 60s should not be on Simvastatin long term.

My DH has been experiencing weird/vivid dreams lately Harri and he’s been on Atorvastatin since his stroke in March. He’s 66. Not sure why he’s on it tbh as his chlorestorol isn’t high.

I have tried and rejected all different types of statins after trying them for a few weeks due to allsorts of side effects ..vivid nightmares being one of them and one in particular still haunts me to this day , it was horrendous.
Swollen ankles..leg pains, swollen breasts all unbearable .
