Numb Face

About a week ago I noticed that the skin above my left eye felt numb. Soon it had spread to the left half of my scalp.
I saw my doctor & he was a bit bemused but decided it is a form of Neuralgia that follows a bout of Shingles. I have never even had Chicken pox let alone Shingles. He was not too worried & said it will go in a few weeks. He said the medication for it can have side effects so just to take Ibruprofen.
I just wondered if anyone else has had this & could give me any idea how long it lasts.
It's not painful- just annoying & a bit worrying.

As I understand it facial neuralgia can be treated conservatively i.e. with pain relief as your doctor advises or in persistent cases the nerve can be injected. I would wait and see if the medication works. In the meantime warm compresses can be soothing. I hope it clears up soon.

It sounds like TRIGEMINAL neuralgia. AMITRIPTYLINE tablets are good for it, apparently

LynneB59 doesn't sound like TN to me, symptoms would be sharp shooting pain on one side of the face. I have TN and take amitriptyline. The only way I can describe the pain is to liken it to electric shocks.

I just saw your post Craftycat as I was looking to see if anyone had posted anything health related to do with neurological symptoms as I have a few that are worrying me at the moment. Yours doesn’t sound like TM at all to me As you would be in terrible nerve pain. I just wanted to say to you that if you still have your symptoms and are seeing your Dr again please ask for a blood test to check your vitamin b12 levels. Any deficiency can cause neuro symptoms. You may need a course of injections. Look on line you will be surprised at what low levels can cause. Hoping you’re feeling better by now ?
