Sertraline - anyone on this?

I have been on Sertraline for a little over a year now having had to change from Duloxatine on recommendation of cardiologist. At first I found I felt nauseous and could sleep the clock round, but after about 3 - 4 weeks I started to feel better. I had been on Duloxitine for almost 6 years but seemingly they were causing a problem with my heart which ended in me having a minor heart attack!
I would hope your G.P. is going to see you in a month to monitor how you are getting on, so if the nausea etc is still going on let them know.

You have had a hard time of it Smurf52. I am so sorry about your DIL. If you ever want to just chat to someone else who understands those "Black Dog" days PM me. I dont want to push in but I do understand how alone you can feel with depression and not everyone understands that!

Hi Smurf52 I do not take Sertraline but am a counsellor and have worked with many clients taking anti depressants. Sertraline is often the medication of choice is a symptom is they find it hard to sleep, the drowsy side effect ( which sometimes goes over time) means it can help if you take it in the late evening rather than the morning. I as told by a GP it doesn't matter whether you take the tablet in the morning or evening as long as you take it the same sort of time every day and don't swap day to day. If taken at night you generally are not drowsy in the daytime but taking at night the same side effect helps you sleep well. Most people with depression sleep too little or too much. The nausea side effect is common to many anti depressants and usually wear off. Full positive effect usually tale between 4-6 weeks to kick in properly. It's really helpful if you can have some therapy for your depression at the same time if you can arrange it.

I was taken off Fluoxitene when I hadn't heart attack in March. Never realised they could cause heart problems.

Feel less depressed now in off them!!

I know two people who are using this.
Both had a reaction around day five to six that was quite a trial to get through. However once it is in your system it seems to be an exceptionally helpful medication.
