Hearing aids...private or NHS?

NHS hearing aids are excellent these days and very discreet. Batteries are supplied free of charge. We did a lot of asking around before my relative decided to go for NHS aids.

My bil bought privately and spent ££££s wore them for a week then went back to his NHS ones.

NHS - they are fine. Mine work brilliantly.

My aunt used to store her very expensive private hearing aids in a drawer which was not a lot of use.

My husband finally gave in and got fitted with a NHS Hearing aid which is so discreet even I cannot see him wearing one.
It has made a marked improvement to both our lives,he can now again use the `phone with confidence and he does not need the T.V or music blaring,whilst we can now converse without shouting and overall life is back to normal.
As far as we are concerned the NHS does a great Hearing Aid and Service, no complaints whatsoever.
Of course we cannot speak for the Private sector.

I went private a few years ago and very happy with them, but have seen NHS ones worn by others recently that look and work great so if I need to replace at some point I'll probably go NHS!

My son in law has NHS hearing aids in both ears and they work well.
Last week he was recalled by the ear department and had 2 new (according to them) improved hearing aids.

My mother in law is house bound has just one NHS hearing aid.
The ear specialist visited her home to check her hearing a d arrange suitable hearing aid

I'm very happy with my NHS hearing aids. Just pop into Specsavers now and again and pick up more free batteries.

NHS, are just as good but fit behind the ear which is easily hidden by longer hair. Don't expect too much, they will be a big help in a quiet environment, but in a noisy party or pub they will be no help at all, they will amplify the noise as well.
Private AIDS often fit in the ear, they are fiddly with small batteries, if you have limited dexterity it will be difficult.
Finally don't loose them or let the dog eat them they are expensive to replace.
