Well today's the day. My second knee replacement op. It's an awful thought knowing what the recovery will be like. I was very sick in hospital last time due to the pain meds. Just lost days.
Will pack this morning and prepare the house. Just looking at all the necessary stuff is depressing. At my pre op visit I was shocked at how anxious I felt just going through those doors.
Oh well. Needs must. Onwards!

Jane, I've only just spotted this thread. I hope you feel better soon.?
Hope to see you in Edinburgh, feeling much better.

I had forgotten the energy drain. I remember falling asleep at the drop of a hat last time.

NfkDumpling Fri 29-Jun-18 19:23:28

Oh, the first few days really are the pits. Why on earth did the physio try to talk to you when you obviously weren’t receiving! Silly boy. He’s got a lot to learn. Deserved all he got.

Sleep is healing. Tell them! I know what you mean, you just can’t stay awake. Knowing its the anaesthetic with a touch of shock thrown in and all perfectly normal doesn’t help, you still fall asleep whatever and feel like c**p (sorry, just read the thread on swearing. Should know better) I fell asleep on the loo! Felt so silly when the nurse woke me up! The jet lag feeling has only recently left me and I still had a nap this afternoon. As you say, this too shall pass. flowers

Jane you are having a hard time and I quite agree, the physio should have left you to sleep- he deserved what he got.

travelsafar Fri 29-Jun-18 18:17:50

Oh you poor thing. Really hope you feel better tomorrow.flowers

Jane10 Fri 29-Jun-18 16:17:14

Thanks all. A bad day so far. The meds make me feel most peculiar. I've been sleeping most of the time. Annoying physio boy comes and talks platitudes very loudly at me. He's not too good at reading patients-the first time he tried to assess me I fainted and I've just thrown up over him and his boss!
Oh God. This too shall pass!

I hope there is air-con or a nice fan where you are Jane!

I remember being in hospital one July and they had the radiators on!!

Get better soon - so glad that it is now behind you and you can focus on getting well. flowers

NfkDumpling Fri 29-Jun-18 16:04:08

I’m now laying here on the sofa with my leg draped over the back - knee above hip and all that! I just achieved a walk into town and back - With No Sticks! Mind you the town square is only 400 yards away!

So onwards and upwards Jane. Fingers crossed all will go perfectly this time.

NfkDumpling Fri 29-Jun-18 16:00:52

Where are you Charleygirl? I had to pay for my first knee and didn’t get all that treatment! That was 15 months ago and it’s now 5 weeks today since I had my second done on the NHS. (Same hospital, same consultant, same treatment.) Tomorrow I see the physiotherapist for the second time, the first time being one week after I went home. And I went home after three nights. With paracetamol and codeine. I did get the 90 degree though with both knees. Perhaps thats the difference. And I do have a Best Beloved to help me. Bless him.

Best wishes for a smooth and swift recovery, Jane10 flowers

*Jane8 this is deja vu from 2 years ago. I am 7 weeks ahead of you. It is 5 years since I had my other knee replaced and I was dreading it because I got insufficient pain relief. A much better anaesthetist this time- I am never sick, unless given morphine which is a bonus.

I was dreading my second knee being replaced but the worst of the pain has now gone and I can only get better.

"Jane" I hate to tell you that it takes 18 months for full recovery but at least you will feel that you are improving each week. I was in for 11 days because I could not achieve 90 degree flexion.

I also had "hospital at home" which meant I had a physio visiting daily to get me on my feet and not slumbering in a chair!

I live on my own so I was allocated a "carer" but I was pleased when her 4 weeks were up. She was allocated 40 minutes with me but spent around 10 minutes here. I could manage without her.

I shower daily but she thought whenever I washed my hair was the only time I have a shower!

Jane if your DH is of any help you will feel better off at home. The very best of luck to you.

Like others I am pleased I only have two knees and do not intend to have a revision of either!

Glad the op is over and wishing you a speedy recovery!! flowers

Liz46 Fri 29-Jun-18 14:46:58

Wishing you a speedy recovery Jane. I hope you haven't got too much swelling. I remember going for physiotherapy on my feet and there was a bunch of ladies with knee replacements comparing swollen knees and sympathising with each other!

SueDonim Fri 29-Jun-18 11:45:29

Im glad you've come through ok! Onward and upward now. smile

Catterygirl Fri 29-Jun-18 10:34:40

Glad it wasn't as bad as the first time and hope you get home soon.

Jane10 Fri 29-Jun-18 10:20:23

Am still in hospital. No chance of d/c home! So many tests and xrays and physio etc etc. On top of that I keep plummeting asleep.

sluttygran Fri 29-Jun-18 09:21:54

So glad to hear it wasn’t so bad this time - here’s wishing you a speedy recovery and miles of pain free walking! winkflowers
