There are things which will ease the symptoms, but they won't get rid of the infection, I suppose.
Bicarbonate of soda is good to drink.
Its the main ingredient in a lot of over the counter products.

My late mother in law used to find Lemon Barley Water was the only thing that helped hers settle when she got one.

Urinary tract infections do make you miserable , but it's important to get it sorted. Keep taking the antibiotics and drink plenty of water . If you have burning / scalding when you urinate, use some Ural effervescent granules in water a few times a day.

Don't bother with the cranberry at the moment - it doesn't help to cure a urinary tract infection. It is useful to prevent any further infections - but not for when you've already got one.

The thrush isn't part of this infection . It is a vaginal infection which is caused by the antibiotics you are taking. Antibiotics get rid of the friendly bacteria in the vagina, thus allowing the thrush to take hold. Use the pessaries as the doctor has given you - they'll clear it up .

The bowel problems may be caused by the antibiotics - but keep taking them. Eating yoghurt will help to replace all the "friendly" bacteria which have been wiped out by the antibiotics, so have some every day .

Best wishes to you - I know how awful a bad infection can make you feel. But it's important to continue the treatment, to prevent the infection going to your kidneys.

You poor thing - it is so miserable.

Sometimes thrush can irritate your urethra, so it might be worth buying an over the counter remedy for that.

I had water infections from age 18 until I hit the menopause which also coincidence with the end of my sex life doctor considered either could have contributed maybe I feel both did
I can so sympathise with you as I always had thrush too Live plain yogurt not the commercial fruit ones is brilliant for soothing that poor old area messy but very soothing I m also a great believer in drinking bicarbonate of soda which neutralises the urine I don’t know if you still get it but I used to be given bottles of mist. Pot. Cit a very lemon tasting med even to this day I don’t like the taste of lemon because of that
Do keep on with the antibiotics but use the other things as well as
I do so feel for you

It's easy to get into a cycle of alternating cystitus and thrush and it can take several months to get your system back in balance. Abstain from sexual activity and be scrupulous about cleanliness. Cystitus is caused by bacteria which usually lives in the bowel getting into the genitals. Wash after every visit to the bathroom with an anti-bacterial wash like Octenisan. Have your doctor check for interstitial cystitis (IC) and bladder pain syndrome (BPS). IC/BPS is not an infection, but it may feel like a bladder infection.

Ask your gp if it could be vaginitis.

D Mannose by Waterfall is brilliant and works very well. I had 3 lots of antibiotics and each time I stopped them, the cystitis returned. D Mannose saved the day. A friend's husband has a permanent catheter and was always needing antibiotics for infections, but now takes D Mannose (the D stands for Dextra) and hasn't needed them. There are no side effects with it whereas there are with antibiotics.

Cranberry used to be recommended but it has since been proven not to work.

I fi d lemon barley water helps with cystitis but this seems more serious. I'd go back to gp.

I second the recommendation for D-mannose (from Sweet Cures). Although a bit pricy, it really brings relief, and very useful to keep as a stand-by.

A good tip for thrush is to dip a tampon in natural live yog and insert, it brings imediate relief and helps replace the good bacteria. I was given this tip many years ago at the family planning clinic as when taking the pill i suffered sometimes. Obviously hide the pot of yog at the back of the fridge so no one else touches it.

As Kitty says, could be vaginitis ie dry vagina following menopause. Hormonal pessaries help a lot.
I had recurrent utis when I temporarily stopped those pessaries, now back on them.

Dear Labaetz. Has the doctor actually sent off a specimen so you are on the right antibiotics? Hope you feel better soon.

Labaz is your GP a man or a woman? I find men don't always take things like this as seriously.
