Gastroscopy without sedation

Anyone done this?

I have an appointment for a repeat gastroscopy next Thursday morning. Last time I had sedation, but an appointment has just come up for my OH at mid-day the same day - he needs to keep this.

The only way I can drive him there is if I do not have sedation for the gastroscopy, so any experiences welcome.

Well - I did it this morning and did not have sedation, but.......I was given 6 big gasps of entonox first which took me happily through the worst bit of the tube going past the throat, then the rest was fine. I did my labour breathing and imagined myself overlooking a Swiss lake - lovely.

OK to drive after 30 minutes, although my DD had taken me so she drove me home.

It meant I was OK to drive my OH to his hospital appointment at 12.

I had it without sedation last Oct. - it was difficult but I survived. The nurse held my hand and I nearly broke her fingers.
My Mum had one under full anaesthetic at age 85 and went into cardiac arrest. But they brought her back TG.

Husband had two recently, both without. He likes to be brave, but he was quite adamant that it was ok. Go for it Lucky and keep hold of the image of your soon-to-be -pink hair ends. It might help to focus on something.

How can no sedation with discomfort gagging and some hurt be no different to being asleep and knowing nothing Coolgran ? ?

Sorry, Lucky I posted without reading your own post first. Well done and I’m glad it’s behind you. Fingers crossed for a good result.
