I have had the electric blanket on full power for a while after I get into bed. I have used Ibuprofen gel, and taken dispersible paracetamol.
Okay, I am not 100%, but my goodness, I am a lot better than I was when I posted this thread !!!
Today I am able to get out of bed without having to stop halfway because of the pain.
Also, I can get off the settee now without gasping.
I am trying to keep as ambulant as I can, but I have to be honest, it has not been easy with this awful cold. A double whammy.
Thanks again Gransnetters for your advice x

Same here,i sneezed this morning in bed, and had sciatica like pain all day, but have a stick on heat pad on,[which i always keep a few of in case of back or neck pain] and a couple of ibuprofen, plus some deep heat massaged in and a hot water bottle on my back all afternoon
Already feels easier, but will have a hot bath later
Oh also a tens machine which i have had for years and rarely needed
Also heat pad on my shoulder as that has been a bit painful too,
Must be the cold i think, knees a bit stiff as well, which dont usually bother me
At the moment its feeling much better, but will put my electric blanket on when i go to bed
I hope you all recover quickly

Deep heat although it smells is great, you get the warmth combined with the pain relief. Ibruprofen are also very good for a pulled muscle as they reduce the inflammation.

Lay on floor (or bed) bend your knees and then rock them from side to side repeat for 2 minutes, repeat every hour. It is important to keep mobile.

Alternating ice pack and heat pads also help.

I have had back pain for years.

I use stick on heat pads for my back when it plays up. It goes into spasm if I sit or stand for too long. They help a lot.

Beware of ibuprofen! It damaged my stomach lining through taking too many for my bad back. I can only take paracetamol now.

Electric heating pad can also help. Also try a TENS machine. It will take time for this pain to completely subside, so anything that gives temporary relief is good.

Keep moving the back----only cure.

Exactly what Elegran said . I’ve had a bad back for a few weeks now ( it’s slowly getting better but still not 100% ) another GN member recommended Voltarol to me which I have been using before bed and again at work, together with an Ibruprofen and it has helped quite a lot . It does help to try and keep moving and to do some gentle exercises . My back seizes up when I’ve been sitting for long periods at work . Hope yours feels better soon 1974cookie

Snap, Ayse.

Voltarol painkiller gel, a hotwater bottle and a hot toddy, and retire to bed early. In the morning, paracetamol or ibuprofen, and a comfortably hot shower, and do some exercises afterwards while the hot water has relaxed your back and the painkillers are working well. These exercises look suitable - www.braceability.com/blogs/articles/3-step-treatment-for-pulled-back-muscle

Maybe try some paracetamol and relax in a warm bath. DH has a permanently bad back and sometimes goes to bed with the blanket on low which seems to help.
Hope it gets better soon

Hi Gransnetters, I really need your advice.
I have caught my Partners 'Man Flu' aka a cold. Bad enough, but I had a sneezing fit this morning, and I have pulled some muscles in my lower back and it is so b****y painful.
I know that it is important to keep as mobile as possible, but do any of you lovely gransnetters have any remedies to alleviate the pain?
