Anyone else got the lurgy?

Just out of the steamy bathroom trying to breathe. Head banging like a drum and I have to drive back from Scotland homewards in a few hours. Hoping for a better night. Last night was spent resting my head on the window bottom in the cold trying to get the mucosa to shrink.

CH in the bath coughing in Olympic proportions. Minor inconvenience knowing what a lot of gransnetters' are suffering with but I (rather selfishly) do not want my MRI cancelled again this week.

No, my immune system is armed to the teeth to repel invaders.
Not since my childhood years have I had a cold or any kind of 'lurgy' and I put it down to healthy eating, exercising in the fresh air every day and having a dessertspoonful of malt extract every morning plus plenty of sleep.
'Get well soon', to all GNers who are feeling under the weather flowers
Spring (and Brexit) will be here soon to lift your spirits. winkgrin

It's seasonal for me I leave work ( nursery) then get the lurgy every year. It's asthma / bronchitis so on steroids and antibiotics.the port is standing unopened and I'm counting the days left to get better before i return to work. Not very festive bah humbug!!!

Had the bad cold and cough a few weeks back. It subsided, only to 'rise' again last week, along with a urinary, tract infection! Got an antibiotic for the UTI, which I hoped would also dampen the cough etc. It did for a few days, but both have flared up again, so might need a visit to surgery on Monday. Catered for eleven on Christmas day, while also having DD1 with herDH and my two GD's staying. On Christmas Eve, I was aching all over, and wondering if I'd manage Christmas Day , but after one and a half Solpadiene and a sherry, things settled a bit. (I was icing the cake at Midnight). Indulging myself a bit today, now that visitors have gone!

Started with the lurgy last night. Suddenly felt very weak, eyes watering and started sneezing. Don't feel too great today.
Someone on here mentioned Day and Night Nurse worked for them so just asked Dd to get me some when she shops today.
That's me stuck in for the rest of the holidays. ?

Get well soon all - I'm out of here!

BonnieBlooming Sat 29-Dec-18 13:01:18

Yep. I've had it since before Christmas. I have asthma and on Christmas night was very short of breath. Seems to be on the wane now but most mornings I sound like I have a 40 a day habit!

DH got bronchitis, started Christmas Day. No real improvement, despite antibiotics. It will take time. Had to cancel a visit to his daughter.

I had the blumming lurgy in October, finally got rid of it with a course of steroids at the end of November...and now it’s back....need shares in Kleenex...

Craftycat Sat 29-Dec-18 12:52:42

We both had it week before Xmas luckily! Well I say luckily....

paddyann Careful how many you take ? You need to replace the fluids you are losing so lots of fluids, water preferably, keep warm so stay indoors and Paracetamol will help to reduce any temperature.

DD started with it on the Sunday before Christmas. She was supposed to work Christmas Eve & Day (nurse) but spent the whole time in bed. DS started the D&V bug on Christmas Eve. We saw neither of them until Thursday! Haven’t caught either of the nasties, thank goodness (and touch wood!).

Bad lurgy here...throat so sore can hardly breathe and headache, d and felt like v at first but that part going now. Had it for three days, eating a bit now but weak. Very depressing.

Have had a bad cold for weeks , which left me with a sinus infection , which I’m on a second course of antibiotics for.Has really taken the edge off Christmas as couldn’t smell or taste anything . No appetite either . On the bright side , I won’t have gained any festive weight !

Started coughing at begining of Dec. Full cold by 10th. Still have stuffed nose and cough. Got through 6 loo rolls blowing my nose. Now OH has got it. Hoping by NYE I will be better. If not will try copious G&Ts to get rid of it.!!!

dragonfly46 Sat 29-Dec-18 11:47:18

I am just starting with a sore throat having spent Christmas with my two DGC who had very snotty noses.

inishowen Sat 29-Dec-18 11:45:08

My 6 year old granddaughter has had it all over Christmas. We thought she was better yesterday and took her to see Mary Poppins. She curled up in her seat and went to sleep! Now hubby has started with the sore throat, coughing, and sneezing.

[tchmm] Has anyone else had the d&v lurgy at the same time?

Grandma59 Sat 29-Dec-18 11:31:35

Both me and OH got the ‘lurgy’. I have lost my voice (OH cheering ?). Getting through boxes of tissues. Hope everyone, and me, feels better soon x

Nannytopsy Sat 29-Dec-18 11:25:31

Yup we have it too! Head cold and a fearsome cough. I find Beechams caplets easier to swallow than those huge capsules, with liquid night nurse. Hope everyone feels better soon xx

Barmeyoldbat Sat 29-Dec-18 11:09:20

Oh dear, hope you all feel better soon.

Blinko Sat 29-Dec-18 11:07:37

We had it the weekend before and thought we'd have to cancel Christmas plans. Fortunately, aided by Night Nurse and Sudafed we were able to go to the ball, Cinderella.

Still have catarrh which I seem to hang on to for weeks....

Sympathy to fellow sufferers. It’s going through the adults gathered on the farm for Xmas. Luckily the four under elevens seem to be surviving - maybe because the are getting doses of fresh air running round the farm after the dogs!
I’ve retreated to bed with paracetamol hoping I’!l feel better later! The family keep me supplied with cups of tea - so mustn’t grumble! - and 8year old granddaughter just popped in to see if I was ok - bless her!

Nograndsyet Sat 29-Dec-18 11:02:19

Head completely stuffed but runny nose. Christmas dinner tasted like cardboard and I was so looking forward to it!! Now a week later my taste is coming back so I’m looking forward to my steak pie dinner on New Year’s Day. Hate having a cold

>>>>>>>>getting over it after waking with a thick sore throat yesterday morning, sneezing for England legs like jelly. A spoonful of honey, more in the porridge and 2 paracetamols every 4 hours and a tot of dark rum.

More or less gone today thank goodness. I think if the weather had been bitter like last year the head cold would have lingered.
