Hi Annie I understand family worries about mh health conditions but as long as people are open to finding a good therapist at some point before 35, to clear out bad stuff, family history of mh gets slightly less a worry.

In Cardiff having a coffee, whoo!

Nonnie Wed 22-May-19 11:48:12

Must watch it.

Anniebach Wed 22-May-19 11:33:58

Hi Sparkle

Alastair certainly was honest, I knew he would be .

I can understand him refusing to talk about his past, the press would make much of it .

I think Donald’s illness had an effect in him, they were very close. Was this why he was interested in ‘genes’ ? He has three lovely children and adores them. I was relieved to learn there is not ‘a gene’ , my elder daughter has bipolar and I do have secret worries about my grandchildren,

Awww no I missed it will ger it on chatch up ... hope every one has a good day ..?

SparklyGrandma Wed 22-May-19 09:53:18

Good morning everyone, Anniebach.

I enjoyed his honesty and full description of how he hits a low point, sometimes in minutes, it seems like. Rapid cycling depression?

I would disagree with his avoidance of looking at his past. His partner said he doesn’t want to.

When I had therapy, it helped with the severity of my depression to look at past events. The effects mostly are lowered, but never disappear BUT knowing and having the power to recognise that I do eventually survive low points and pain about past events, is long term empowering.

I hope I have described it in a good way.

I had a council surveyor around yesterday, apparently the rewiring is very imminent. No warning, and it will mean living with dust, loads of people here. I like to plan properly, planning is everything!

I also haven’t been able to tell them I am on holiday in mid June and it’s too late to cancel.

Good morning friends

Marilla. What did you think of the programme? Could you relate to Alastair when he spoke of his depression ?

Marilla Wed 22-May-19 08:42:01

Could we start a new discussion on the Alistair Campbell documentary?

Anniebach Tue 21-May-19 22:17:33

Hi all x very busy day

I watched Alastair’s programme, yes Dawn very interesting, he was so honest .

Interesting the different possible aids , I could certainly relate to the jam jar.

Relieved to learn there is not one gene .

Anyone else watched ?

Dawn22 Tue 21-May-19 22:09:07

Did you see the programme Annie? Very interesting with Alaistair's range of potential aids/cures.
Unfortunately no quick fix.
Very best from Dawn

Nonnie Mon 20-May-19 17:44:09

Salsa so sorry. Yes I have a good life too but it doesn't help.

Thanks for the explanation it makes it clear but has made me realise I have a double whammy as I have both!

SalsaQueen Mon 20-May-19 17:23:43

nanny2507...I adore my cat, too, and he always sleeps with me. Your cat owes his life to you, and that's wonderful. x

SalsaQueen Mon 20-May-19 17:22:30

Nonnie.............Clinical depression used to be known as Endogenous depression. It is the deletion of certain chemicals in the brain, so there is no obvious cause, unlike reactive depression (which is caused by bereavement, divorce, the usual stresses we all experience at times). ANY type of depression is horrible, but the Endogenous one (I have had that on and off for 30 years) makes a person feel very much a fraud, a failure because on the surface, life can be good. I've got a lovely husband, my rock. My AC are great, we all live within 1/2 a mile of each other and get on very well. I only work P/T, in a job I enjoy. My mortgage is paid, I haven't got any debt. I've got friends, hobbies, live in a quiet, decent area.....but at times I wish I could go to sleep and never wake up. Ridiculous, when I think of people who have actual problems. There we have it...

nanny2507 Mon 20-May-19 16:01:11

i think i will sleep with my cat tonight. he is my best friend i adore him

nanny2507 Mon 20-May-19 16:00:11

Lisagran Mon 20-May-19 15:49:51

Ah, ok. Good luck!

Anniebach Mon 20-May-19 15:34:01

Lisa, I moved to another part of town in 2017 , my elder daughter was very ill and I wanted to be near her, one friend retired and moved away, one divorced and moved to Spain, one developed a serious illness and a problem in my extended family caused a separation between my three sisters and me and my darling daughter died, a lot happened in ten months . Haven’t met my new neighbours yet , have agoraphobia so don’t go out, working on it though

Lisagran Mon 20-May-19 15:20:21

Yes indeed, Annie, a lot of changes for everyone since the 70s. Do you not have friends now though? I can’t imagine life without friends.
