Thank you Ladies, it’s comes as a huge shock especially as I’m known for being a generally well and fit person
I’m not in hospital at the moment just resting at home waiting for them to ring regarding brain scan
It’s a relatively small stroke but shocking all the same.
That’s good news regarding driving. Losing my independence was worrying as I’m only 56

I've had 3 strokes that I've been aware of and a multitude that show up on mri's but all strokes are different. I can still drive as I've not lost any vision or am impaired in any noticeable way. Try not to panic everyone is told not to drive for 4 weeks post stroke and then it will be re evaluated. Take whatever help is offered. I think you can find eye strengthening exercises on line.

Almost automatic 20 week ban wuth a stroke diagnosis. HOWEVER usually it is down to consultant after scans etc to decide... many many people are able to drive after the grace period... please do not get stressed over this at the moment... so many things change in the first months after a stroke... some meds will affect your ability to drive..but it is a full year until everything settles down again.. accept what advice your consultant gives you..any offer of phydio is to be grabbed with both hands..eat well..excercise and rest.. give yourself time and tlc.. my best wishes..

Try not to be scared, I know it's difficult but it will not help you at all as you will not be able to take in what the care team tell you .
Get a pen and notepad and write down any questions you have so that you have them in front of you when care team come to see you and also make notes of things they tell you . Never be afraid of asking questions no matter if you think they may seem silly , they are not and the team will not think so either.
Rest as much as you can and make the changes they tell you to . The medication they may give you could give you massive headaches but they do ease the longer you take them . If they do give you medication and it does not suit you there will be alternatives so speak to the care team but do give meds time to work.
Keep in regular touch with care team ..ie keep all appointments .

minxie it is a shock. My friend had a full blown stroke this time last year, and was told that she had had a number before. She initially has no swallow reflex, couldn’t walk had no use of one of her arms. A week later she tottered out of hospital, and has been getting gradually better. She is in Hawaii at the moment.

So I think on the whole you will find it is ok and not so bad after you get over the shock. If you feel that your eye sight is ok, I would definately push back against the driving ban. It may in any case be only until you can be properly assessed.
