Annie thanks for the information. I know that there are varying degrees of the illness, and so most of those symptoms don't apply to me (promiscuity, drugs/alcohol, etc). A lady across the road (married, in her 60s, AC) is bipolar and she has very bad highs and lows.

I feel fine today, though, and I know I'm very lucky to have such an easy life, brilliant husband and loving family.

bipolar, it use to be called manic depression. It involves highs and lows, on a high a sufferer can go nights without sleep and still have high energy, they can go on spending sprees, sort out the worlds problems, be the life and soul of a party, take risks. Some can be promiscuous, not all.

When a low hits getting out of bed can be impossible , they are in such dark place they may try to take their lives, self harm . And many self medicate which makes things even worse but for the suffer it blocks out the thoughts for a while.

It is a serious mental illness , hell for the sufferer and hell for those who love them.

In no way am I attempting to diagnose.

Have you been offered counselling? It can help x

Annie so sorry wittering on when you are so worried about your nephew/God Son.

I wish him well and hope that he has a speedy recovery.

His young age may actually be an advantage.
He should heal quickly and hopefully enjoy better health for many years to come.

Annie for years I have had depression and anxiety (It has never gone away), and I have been on antidepressants for many years - 1989 for 9 months, then in 1995, I went on antidepressants again and have been on them since, apart from a gap of 2 years or so. My moods seem to be either very low or quite high, and seldom in-between. I just wondered....

last year but a quintuple was more of a worry. We must stay positive and wait for time to pass x

annie my DH had a triple bypass at 48 and then went on to have many other operations including 3 strokes and cancer. He is 20 years post bypass and doing really well on all counts. This is quite a common op now and we know many people who have had it and done well. Hope your nephew does well.

Joce, it was such a shock, he has never smoked, played football for years , last week rushed to hospital and they said
he was born with a heart defect . When I think how he went
back packing around Australia when young, the stress of his first wife having cancer . And now settled with a lovely partner and a 5 year old son. Anyway what matters now is he gets well.

I dont buy newspapers either they really upset me. however i do love things like 24 hours in A&E. or 999 whats your emergency and i love Made in Chelsea. I joke that the crew are actually my real family

Cherry I avoided any thing to do with hospital doctor health in general it’s horrible.. hope your counselling goes well for you

Joce he is in icu, good news he survived surgery but he has a long way to go to return to good health, I will be more settled when he is out of icu.

Cherry so happy you are to have counselling, the menopause does affect many women re depression and anxiety, we are here for you x yes that bridge, I avoid at all times and it pops up on the news. !

Salsa May I ask why you think you are bipolar? This is an illness I certainly know much about x

Annie you had a very full day then.

I'm feeling more "normal" today, whatever normal is... I have these episodes of paranoia, and have sometimes wondered if I'm bipolar or something. The GP thinks not. I don't know, but I'm glad to feel OK today.

First of all thank you all for spurring me on to get help re my anxiety.
I have attended a well-being session at my local Health Centre.
The result is I have been referred to an anxiety counselor.

The lady apologised that they do not have an appointment available until beginning of September.

That actually suits me as I am helping with school hols child care.
It took all my strength to attend the initial meeting.
So feel I need to build up to the next!
Also I need to get my head around the reading material that she provided me with.

As far as my family are concerned, it is a meeting re my menopause, which is partly true as I feel it is having a detrimental impact on my mental health and causing excessive anxiety.

Annie sorry about the reporting on the Welsh news programme.

Over the last five or six years I have stopped reading any newspapers, local papers were actually worse for my anxiety than the nationals.

I watch limited TV.
No News programmes.
Avoid Hospital Dramas at all costs.

I am also careful what I read
on-line including GN.

I dont advise this course of action to anyone on this thread, as it is an avoidance tactic.
One that I feel that I will be expected to overcome at some point.

I didn’t have a good day yesterday, waiting for news of my
Godson/Nephew who underwent a quintuple bypass, 48 so young . The operation was successful and he is now in ICU.

I was watching the Welsh news, they showed an interview with the winner of the by-election held here Thursday, she
Was standing in front of that bridge.

Elder granddaughter was hoping to hear yesterday if they have the tenancy of a house back in Wales, nothing so we are
hoping for Monday.

Yes life is all about uncertainty and having to make and face changes. And it requires great courage at times and it requires me to work on my personal growth almost daily as l am a nervous person due to life circumstances.

There are so many variables to life and it is to try and get as many things working as smoothly as possible. That is a challenge.

Doing the best l can in circumstances and then Acceptance of all things as they are is the only thing that works for me.

Oh Nanny no! I couldn't do that. I did have white mice when I was a child though and loved them. We used to watch the frogspawn and then look for the frogs, I love them!
