Morning, everyone.
This is just a quick post as a sequel to my OP of I need help!

Last night I went to a local AA meeting. Everyone was so welcoming, that my nerves soon disappeared and I felt like I was with friends.
The man in charge told me to just listen to stories, not to compare but to see if I could identify. I learned so much in those 90 minutes.
1) I don't have to drink. Just because it's Friday, Saturday, Wimbledon's on or whatever, I don't have to drink.
2) I have a problem with alcohol because the first is never enough. I have to carry on. It doesn't relax me or make me happy. In fact, it does the opposite. Talk about a Lightbulb moment. It's not my friend, and it never was.
3) Not only is it an illness, but it's a progressive one - it will only get worse, not better.

I did learn so much more, but wanted to keep this relatively short. I am aware that the road ahead may be challenging at times, but thanks to you and your encouraging, honest and non judgmental posts, I am feeling optimistic.
I will take one day at a time. For today I will not drink.
I will get back to you all in a few weeks.
Thanks again - you are all amazing x

Be very proud of yourself just for going to that first meeting. Be very proud of yourself just for making that decision.
Be very proud of yourself just for your bravery.
Be very proud of yourself just for one day at a time... ?????
I watched my daughter go through this process, my very brave beautiful daughter who I am so very proud of x

Well done, what an achievement. I wish my late best friend had had your courage. When she died I felt guilty for years, but eventually realised if she wouldn't do it for her Mum, she wouldn't have done it for me. xx

Well done Esmenonna. Let us know how you are getting on. There is an excellent online support group called Soberistas which might also help. Good luck

A wonderful second post. It's lovely to hear how posters are doing after asking for help. This post comes over as very positive, hope you continue well, that any setbacks do not de-rail you. Keep in touch! flowers

I think everyone here is really happy for you and hoping these good feelings will continue. You have been so brave and will no doubt need this courage for the road ahead, but I feel confident you will triumph. Looking forward to your next post sometime down the line. Hugs ...

I was singing that song to myself only this morning! Dunno why. Apart from the fact that it's lovely.
