I had a laminectomy which is one form of decompression surgery on L4/L5 about 20 yrs ago for persistent Sciatic pain that didn’t respond to any other treatments. I’m assuming you’ve already tried other treatments as your consultant is advising surgery.
I was in hospital 5 days and it was painful for a couple of those days but soon improved I’m glad I had it done. I do still get the odd twinge but nothing like it was before as I was hardly able to walk/work at times now a few stretches deals with it.
