I have always had 'big legs' even as a youngster, but as I have aged, my right leg in particular looks awful.
Where other women have ankles and slim lower legs, mine look like sausages - well, the right one does! My ankles and feet swell in hot weather too, but even when it's not hot, my right foot/ankle looks puffy. It's not pitting odema.
I can never wear dresses and tights because I'm so self-conscious. In recent years I've taken to wearing leggings, jeggings and tunics which I love - it's my everyday uniform! Previously it was baggy trousers - unflattering on a short, dumpy middle aged woman. However, in these tighter trousers, the odema is more apparent.
I'm going to my brother's wedding party at the end of September. I know I should be over this vanity thing and not care how I look but how can I go to a wedding in leggings or baggy trousers? I can't put my legs on show!
I'm also going to a festival next week with my daughters, grandchildren and some of DDs' friends. In the heat I'd love to wear cropped trousers but they'd look awful on me. DH says sod it, just wear what you want - it doesn't matter. But I'm increasingly feeling miserable about it.
There is no 'cure', I know, but symptoms can sometimes be managed. The GP isn't interested, but I plan to go again and persist. In the meantime, does anyone else suffer from this, and has anyone ever had lymphatic massage for their legs? Is it effective/painful/expensive?
I should add....I am very overweight for my height and I KNOW that doesn't help matters. I am trying really hard to address it and have lost quite a bit of weight (and regained some, but am back on it now).
Any advice or reassurance welcome! Sorry this post is so trivial amidst the real problems in this world!
