Complaints about the tena lady ad

I am afraid I have to disagree...I am glad this issue is out in the open. I had no idea I had leakage problems and it would have been good to know this years ago. It has ruined 2 relationships at least and until I twigged, several sofas and beds.

I have tried everything other than surgery, excercises, regular exercise such as yoga and swimming.

Nothing worked. I am now on a bladder calming tablet solinefacin but still leak and wear a towel every day.

The tena ad was a breath of fresh air, I say let’s be open about it and not leave new mothers to cope with this alone. ?

I must be very fortunate. Despite being a fat woman.

We were recently offered free incontinence knickers and boxes of pads, at our elder's group and I was the only one who didn't take any.

You watch, now I'll spring a leak !!

Men have this problem too, why is there no advert for them????

I completely agree. It is not “normal “ to piss your pants! Get medical help and wear proper underwear instead of what is basically a nappy.

They are not a myth. I was referred to a continence nurse, who reminded me how to do pelvic exercise floor exercises ( I had been taught when I was pregnant many years ago). Other advice included decaf tea, drinking more water, avoiding certain things. I was treated with kindness and respect. It was great to be listened to, and to have 3x an hour’s appointment.

There is a good natural purpose for incontinence in the older person. We can leave a trail of drips that can help us remember our way from the living room to the kitchen when we start getting forgetful. Don't use these incontinence products, they prevent the drops from reaching the floor!

In the past there were adverts in magazines asking women to keep their men happy. You wouldn’t believe how! Douche in Lysol. I feel our society is very misogynistic and for years it’s women who are portrayed as having the problem with incontinence, bad odours adverts, fresh and clean adverts. I saw an advert on eBay for a product that said it removes disgusting vile smells from your vagina! Are men shamed? Do they ever get told their sperm is a contributing result of imbalance of the vagina which could lead to odours due to its high ph value. Just blame the women. Remember when the dangers of aids was in the media it was a women they used in their advertising campaign to wear condoms because they were worried about upsetting men. Just letting off steam, my apologies.

Yes camia in france postnatal physio is a normal part of the maternity package and their rates of female incontinence are much lower. It is NOT inevitable.

We seldom watch anything with adds live so skip all adds when we watch so I have never seen it . Can anyone describe it please .

Men do suffer from incontinence missdeke.... mine does... 10 years in now.... and flatly refuses to do anything about it!!

I hate these ads and the one for vaginal dryness.
I only really leak when sneezing or coughing but find these ads embarrassing if my husband or grandchildren are watching.

There is help via the NHS , I recently had Botox injections in my bladder. My incontinence had nothing to do with weight or not doing my pelvic floor exercises.
I'm pleased to report that the Botox has just started to work (2+ weeks post surgery). This is being used before any invasive procedure. I've suffered for years, since I had my daughter 25 years ago!! I'm still relatively young and when I think of the amount I have wasted on sanitary products I didn't actually need (I could only use one sort due to allergies) its criminal really!! Yes these companies are greedy, and their adverts are ridiculous!!

Missdeke, yes men can suffer from incontinence, I think is often related to prostate gland problems. And yes, there are pads for men too.

Before I retired , I worked as a specialist nurse in the continence service. These services are all around the UK - they are NHS. Often self referral is possible . GP's often arnt aware of the help available.
A full assessment and management plan is available for the many different types/causes of bladder and bowel incontinence. Pads are only recommended if a cure or improvement is not possible.

I strongly agree, from what I have heard France takes women's health far more seriously and do not think they should just put up with things. I am so shocked by attitudes towards women and their sexuality and well being that I hear about and experience. We seem to be written off especially once we are past a certain age. Very cruel.

When these adverts first came out re the little oops moments my grandson who is ten told me women wear them because they start wetting themselves when they get old! When I was doing my nurse training we had a incontinence nurse tell us that this problem should not be ignored as it can cause many problems like infections etc. She said there are many treatments available to try and these advert do nothing to promote this. I wrote to both Tena lady and the Always company to complain about this and it was pure greed on their part and nothing to do with helping women with this problem. Always replied and said they did intensive research on the products which women found useful to carry on with their lives. But nothing was said about how could also educate women on understanding its a common problem but not necessarily a normal life accepting thing. All of us should go online and contact these companies and complain because they are offensive because if we don’t these type of adverts will continue. They are on the Internet and have a contact email. I’m just fed up with adverts which embarrass women and don’t help. They also add to the pollution problem of disposing them along with the nappies mountain .

I got confused which ad is which. I enjoy quite a few of those ads but I don't always pay attention to which product they are about.

It's a dreadful advert and gives the impression that women should just accept the problem, as though it's ok for them to put up with it.
Perhaps we should all complain to The Advertising Standards Authority. If enough complaints are made, especially pointing out that the advert is misleading, then it might have an effect.

Women are also targeted for stomach issues too. It's always a woman in the Immodium ad, always a woman taking natural yoghurt with acids wossname (for the good gut health that men don't seem to lack, apparently). And it's a woman in the Dulcolax ad too, I seem to recall. Because if we don't have chronic diarrhoea then we must be permanently constipated.

That ad makes me cringe! Whoever thought it was OK!

Urinary incontinence in men isnt advertised as much, there are many incontinence pads for men too,which are widely used, but not mentioned!
