I apologise if there is another thread about this. How is anyone standing the heat. None of our family can sleep. Were all grumpy with each other. I cant wear even minimal make up i cant mix face cream with sweat. Im sticky with factor 50 all over. My t shirts are are all stained. I had about 2 hours sleep last night. I m working today after 5 hpurs of looking after a cross 6 year old. Cant stand being in my car. I cant understand how anyone can go abroad seeking heat. Anyone got any ideas before i just curl up and fry

I love it, the cold makes me feel miserable grey and older the sun and the warmth brings me to life
We have cold weather about 9 /10 months of the year we get a week of warmth and people go on like we re on the equator

MissAdventure Sat 31-Aug-19 22:48:57

Its been boiling hot here today.
I got in from work and got straight into a tepid bath.

Back door is open to try and get a breeze.

Not that hot near Edinburgh so try not to complain when it is. Problem in U.K. is buildings rarely have air conditioning - schools hospitals health centres shops etc like they do in countries used to heat so it’s very hard to work and go about your business as normal. Seems that global warming is just making us wetter not warmer! Last summer was much nicer than this year has been.

I hate every minute of hot weather, so I’m rejoicing because it’s September tomorrow, and even though it can be hot in September, at least it will get cooler and cooler after that.

Like others, I just don’t understand what people enjoy about heat. Also, at my age I look much better in winter clothes than I do in summer ones. Too much bare flesh not a good look on older people. Winter clothes are more interesting, too, with lots of nice textures.

We've put the heating on for a puff of warmth. It's 12.5deg outside and I've had to put socks on for the first time for months. sad

Benefits of living in the north east, ETB1.

I worked in a very hot country last year. I had heat exhaustion headaches very day. It was awful.

dogsdinner

My bit of Cornwall was lovely yesterday. Sat in some shade all afternoon. Bit of rain around midnight. Cloudy today but I'm still outside today cutting grass as it's a bit cooler.

ethelbags1 I love the heat and have no problems with it at all,do you have cotton sheets and cotton pj's/nightdress with a very light tog duvet or top cotton sheet, put a pedestal fan in your bedroom before you retire for the night and you should be comfortable, run your wrists under cold water for 5mins it cools the blood down and does work making for a more comfortable sleep.

It’s in the 30s here in South Bucks far too hot, low 20s suits me.

Sara65 Tue 27-Aug-19 13:19:08

Gorgeous here in the west country, it has been very hot, but not unbearably so.

I took one of my granddaughters out for the day yesterday by train, and they announced that they were sorry, but the air conditioner wasn’t working!! Awful

It's scorchio here in East Anglia. DH hates it, I love it!

We pace ourselves, getting jobs done early in the morning then have a two hour rest mid-day with a light lunch. I had a Tesco delivery yesterday rather than venture out in 30C.

The evenings are lovely. A gentle breeze, lots of birdsong and the best time to water the garden.

Hate winter.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 27-Aug-19 13:11:21

Love the hot weather, I do everything I would normally do, but slower. Drink glass after glass of water during the day, wear natural fibres, eat light meals.

One of the good things about the UK
is our different seasons.

MissAdventure Tue 27-Aug-19 12:56:22

I absolutely hate the heat.
Its unbearable, and I don't feel inclined to like it just because it will soon be colder.
I can't wait!

sodapop Tue 27-Aug-19 12:39:06

I'm with you ethelbags1 I have never been comfortable in hot weather so these last 2 summers have been horrible for me. I feel like I am continually moaning but I find it all so enervating. I cannot understand holidays in hot climates either.
If I could afford to I would move somewhere with a cooler climate. I love Autumn and winter.

Gonegirl Tue 27-Aug-19 12:32:02

moggie57 I like your post. You put me to shame. Time to shift myself methinks.

Alexa Tue 27-Aug-19 12:31:31

Drink water, including when you don't feel thirsty.

ninathenana Tue 27-Aug-19 12:28:22

Window open, fan on #3 and nothing covering us plus I keep the curtains closed all day as our bedroom is south facing.
We are opposite the sea so usually there is a breeze but today there is none at all. I have all windows and patio doors open during the day and large fan on full blast.
All good until you step outside. I was dripping just hanging out laundry yesterday.
I love the sunshine but not the high heat.

Labaik Tue 27-Aug-19 12:25:35

I've never worn shorts, even when I was young [horrible legs; even worse now blue with veins yukk]. I'm sure that if I did I'd feel cooler....

Whitewavemark2 Tue 27-Aug-19 12:19:36

I dont mind the heat, but at 28c today, I tend to sit indoors out of the heat.

I manage the heat ok by relaxing at the hottest time and doing more mornings and evenings,

The early mornings at 6am this hot weather are absolutely glorious.

nonnasusie Tue 27-Aug-19 12:16:05

We've had more or less continuous 40c heat for a couple of months ( with no rain)! Even the locals are saying they can't remember a summer so hot!
It has been too much this year. I've had to wait until the evening for my swim or risk getting sunstroke.

At least we'll get a respite next week as we are going to England, Cornwall first then up to Manchester!! Reading previous posts I think we had better pack jeans and jumpers( and waterproofs) ! I've lived in shorts and vests for weeks unless going out when I wear cropped pants and sleeveless t shirts!!

Labaik Tue 27-Aug-19 11:49:04

Squiffy; those cooling towels are just what I need...thanks for that. [however, if I buy one you can guarantee the weather will change and it will be my fault...]...

Labaik Tue 27-Aug-19 11:46:45

ethelbags; I was pondering last night why, when it's hot, I sweat like crazy whereas other people look just 'hot'. It pours down my face, my clothes stick to me and I have to change them several times a day etc etc. On the subject of microfibre things are they environmentally damaging [like fleeces] when washed as I was going to start using my microfibre gym/sauna towels on an everyday basis. I've often wondered, when on holiday, how people manage to work in such heat, but now our summers are the same.

EllanVannin Tue 27-Aug-19 11:04:35

Me too Oldwoman. The cold/winter makes me feel quite ill.

Oldwoman70 Tue 27-Aug-19 10:59:44

It won't be long before everyone is complaining about the cold! I much prefer this weather to snow and ice - long may it last
