Tetanus booster side effects

We had the booster triple injection 3 weeks ago, I felt extremely groggy the following couple of days, Mr,Gravy was absolutely fine.

I haven't had this with a tetanus booster, but avoid the flu jab as was really ill for 3 weeks after it. Hope you feel better soon, it will pass.

My daughter said she felt very unwell for a couple of weeks after a tetanus jab, she had a precautionary jab after an injury as she couldn’t remember the date of her last one. The nurse told her it was an over dose in her case. No long lasting ill effects though!

I'm not sure why it's reassuring to hear some other experiences but it is! And positive ones too, thank you.

A while ago I had to have one as I was volunteering in an animal shelter. Being me I was expecting problems especially as I didn't expect to have to have the polio and diphtheria as well. But nothing at all not even a headache.

I am lucky enough to be fit and well for 66 ... I went in for a tetanus booster about 6 weeks ago and since then have been feeling out of sorts, just basically lethargic and unwell. Kept thinking it couldn't be down to a tetanus jab ....

I was shocked to find out (via repeat prescription page) that I had actually had Tetanus, Polio and Diptheria jab.

Still don't feel entirely well, stomach very sore and have had a couple of minor mishaps (missed bottom step kind of thing) that don't usually happen to me.

Really hope it passes soon.

Yes why give us older ones the diphteria and polio as well? I was horrified when I realised but as I needed the tetanus to work as a volunteer in an animal shelter I had to go along with it.

Bluesky I had to have the tetanus jab because I help at an animal rescue centre. I suppose there's some kind of advantage in putting the three together, either financial or practical but the side effects are horrible. I haven't been sleeping well and funnily enough, I am pretty steady on my feet but I've been tripping over things. Odd.

I can't have the tetanus jab. I had a bad reaction at the site of the first injection I had, a worse one to the second, and they decided not to risk the third. Good job I'm not a gardener (I actually have the perfect excuse!).

Do we actually need to have polio and diphtheria vaccines again?

So sorry you are poorly, I hate having live vaccines, they often do make you feel poorly. Hope you feel better soon.

Notentirely and Maggie glad I didn't read your posts before or I would definitely not had the booster! Same reason why I'm hesitant with the flu jab.

I think you’re wise to have the booster, BlueSky. Tetanus can be a killer and I would certainly get protection against it if I could. I hope I haven’t put anyone off!

I certainly didn't mean to put anyone off but I think some of us react to things more than others (and I have an immune system disorder that means that my immune system bumps along at the bottom of the range) and I also think medical decisions are sometimes taken for economic or pragmatic reasons rather than in the best interests of a particular patient.

I did have the flu jab for the first time last year and it was fine. I think I've read that vaccinations often include things like formaldehyde and mercury, neither of which are great for the human body.

Anyway, I'm feeling better now but I think it took about a week and I think it is helpful to know if other people have had reactions because the medics tend to deny any side effects and say it's all in the mind, and I mind!!

The reason for diphtheria and polio is that most adults don't maintain their immunity after their childhood jabs and because many people travel to places where these diseases still happen and people from these places travel to UK and may not be immunised as we are. There have been cases in UK due to this. The government decided that adults should be protected as well as children. It is the tetanus part that can make people feel off colour sometimes.

Tetanus booster is used to protect adults and children of seven years old and above from tetanus (lock jaw). The commonly observed side effects of Tetanus vaccine includes mild fever, joint pain, nausea and muscle ache.

Last time I asked for a tetanus jab, I was told I had had it so many times already that further doses were not needed.

I was told that they now think you need 5 doses throughout your life so I should have my next one in 5 to 10 years. I told the nurse I'd keep my fingers crossed for still being in this world at that point!

It is important to keep vaccinations up to date if you can, a friend of mine trod on a nail and caught tetanus, he was very ill for 3 months. So you really should not neglect or decline vaccination for emotional reasons, if you react badly, that’s different, you have a compromised immune system and should avoid risk of infection of all sorts.

Polio, war zones aside there are 2 Islamic countries with very high polio infection rates, Pakistan and Nigeria where vaccination rate low because of fear of western influence and values.
