Love the stories of your elderly mothers on a brandy/whisky nightcup being partial to shorts myself! Cheers!

Having had a quick look at the study mentioned it only looked at Koreans and, as far as I’m aware, they have a higher risk of developing heart problems due to genetic makeup. The researcher admits that the increased incidence of AF may be due to other variables which were not excluded.

My 88 year old mum has a triple whisky in bed every night.Takes lots of tablets for her heart and bp but feels fine.

Where did you read it? So much of what is in the papers is scaremongering or very selective reporting. If you find the study it is based on and read that you often realise that the reporters analysis is horrendously biased.

My mother is 95 and washes her tablets down with Brandy - I'm not joking. She's done this for years.

My 91 year old mother has a glass of red wine most evenings. She had a bottle of Jagermeister in the cupboard which she thought was a tonic wine, like Wincarnis, and after a heavy cold was drinking a large glassful after lunch each day, thinking it would perk her up. My sister had to point out the alcohol content to her.

Me too. Don’t know how I would cope without it ?

Exactly! As I was saying in another post the conflicting advice on just about everything is mind blowing! I've got so fed up that now I follow the everything in moderation school of thought!

Evening, not vending ?

Everything in moderation. My dear friend has a glass of wine (mostly white, but red as well ) every lunch time and another glass in the vending. She is 80 years old and looks about 60.....no health problems at all. I'm not advocating it, but it certainly hasn't harmed her.

Yes, I have a glass of red wine most days along with an occasional G&T. I thought it was caffeine that caused abnormal heart rhythms? In fact the nurse at the GP surgery said the latter to me the other day.

I have read that red wine is especially helpful as you get older, because of flavinoids? The number of changes of this kind of advice have become absurd, I don't take that much notice though I do try to eat healthily.

I do admit to having a nice glass of red each evening with my meal ... and very good it is too ! But now have read in the paper today that just one drink a day increases the risk of abnormal heart rhythms and that it is deemed worse than binge drinking !! I do have a heart rhythm problem .. suffer with ghastly ectopic heartbeats which make me feel awful but I know these are brought on by my chronic anxiety and stress and doubt very much that my one delicious glass of red is contributing to these. It’s not that long ago that it was thought having a glass of wine is actually GOOD for the heart... so now yet something else to worry about ! Does anyone else enjoy a drink every day ... or is it only me ?
