Hello, I've been reading various posts on this forum for days and have found them enlightening and helpful. I'm an AC who went no contact with my mom for three years. We "reconciled" but it wasn't because we were able to have a heart to heart conversation where we listened to each other and tried to change. My mom's health wasn't well and I felt guilty because she didn't really have anyone. Also I was afraid that if she died I would regret the estrangement.
We have been reconciled for five years now and all of the behaviors and some conflict persist. I say some of the conflict because, while she hasn't changed, I have learned tools to reduce conflict and often I just leave the room when she starts in on me. I guess I'm looking for advice and to see if anyone has felt similarly after reconciling.
The behaviors that I am struggling to tolerate are constant criticism and belittling, an inability or unwillingness to consider my feelings and a generally bitter and angry disposition.
