I am contemplating joining up but can I cope with the sheer mindlessness of it?
Please don't tell me to take up running.....that won't be happening.

I am very short (5') and generally maintained a size 10 figure until the dreaded menopause hit 15 years ago. My weight crept up until I was size 16 last year and decided enough was enough. I tried quite a few different diet plans, but as I am pretty much housebound (anxiety and back problems) I won't sign up for anything with weekly meetings, or get much exercise. Eventually I landed on an online meal replacement diet called Slim and Save (as long as others have mentioned specific brands). Firstly, it is no more expensive than groceries (less in my case), you can eat four of their package meals (add water, microwave) per day, or three packs and a meal of 100 gms of meat and 200 gms of vegetables. It took a while to get used to the different meals and figure out the ones I really like, but I started in July and was back to size 12 in mid-September. I also gave up alcohol. I even went on holiday and ate what I pleased, but only gained 3 lbs in two weeks. Just saying - different things work for different people.
A relatively easy way to lose (some) weight, not sure about a stone though, is to give up all alcohol and fizzy sweet drinks.
thanks for pointing it out..boody is short for Boudica...my nickname. I`m a wheelchair user and set off at a gallop when I`m on a mission!
I have thought of going to a local slimmers group, but hearing a friend talk about the rules, jargon, puts me off.
I have lost 12.5kg in the last 14 months, without ability to exercise as have awful ME/CFS.
I am down 2 sizes and my target is 3kg to go.
I cut down to 1.5 meals a day by promising myself something nice with the money when I have achieved it.
And I was very chunky and by some criteria, will still be chunky, but want to try and help awful back pain from herniated and compressed discs.
Decided to name November 'Slender November' in this house, the aim is to eat more sensibly, will possibly do some 5:2 days, and cut out butter (my weakness) and cut down on chocolate (another weakness) will just have a small square a day! Hopefully can lose around half a stone, I am upping my gym workouts a bit too. And will walk briskly when doing Christmas shopping! Did think about a slimming club but just can't face it, and all the people I know who have gone become obsessed by 'points' and 'syns'.
I did the Tesco online diet about 10 years ago as I was a size 16 and we were going on a cruise and I lost a stone and a half. At 5ft nothing I looked like a dumpling at a 16! Put about half a stone back on, and then lost a bit of that. Always hover around a size 12-14 now which seems to suit. I no longer eat breakfast except for Saturday as a treat (usually a crumpet or teacake with jam), And Sundays I will have a late brunch, sausage or bacon butty or a boiled egg. Apart from that I eat a moderate portion of what I want and have a glass of wine with dinner. I do yoga, at least one health walk a week and do a ballet class and always try to walk to and from activities if possible. When I think I was a size 8 when I met DH!
I too hate slimming groups, they can be full of little groups which are hard to get into. That said I’ve been to a fair few. I just can’t face them anymore.
So I joined on line, I’ve done WW, but this time I’m doing slimming world. It’s perfect, I’m never hungry and can still have treats. Just weigh yourself once a week and go onto the app. Easy. ?x
I’ve read the whole thread & notice no one has mentioned OurPath yet. It’s an online healthy eating plan, so no need to go out to weekly meetings, but plenty of help & support online. The nutritional advice is up to the minute and inter-related themes such as stress, exercise & sleep are all addressed too. I find the articles really interesting & informative. You get a recipe book to start you off and if you choose the non tech plan (I think we’ve ascertained that we all own scales), it’s only £7.50/week for the first 3 months, then £10/month thereafter, if you wish to continue. I lost 10lb in 6 weeks to get to the weight I wanted to be and have stayed there for 3 months. It’s low carb, but not no carb.
Perhaps you should consider joining the three of us grapefruit who are on the ‘I’m a pear thread’. We have been going for over 18 months now, all on different diets and all losing (and gaining occasionally) weight.
We expect to pick up our numbers at New Year, but we are all determined to slim down for our health and families’ sake.
You would be most welcome.

I needed to lose some weight and went out with a friend just before New Year and she’d lost 5 stone! She’d done it using the weight watchers app. I don’t need to lose 5 stone and thought half a stone would be better than none. New Year’s Day I thought I was downloading the ww app, but in error downloaded WLR ( obviously hung-over) Weight Loss Resources. I loved it. I could set my own target and lose at the rate I chose. I could enter exercise which gave me additional calories if I wanted them too. I made the half stone, then another and another. At the end of May, before my holiday, I decided that this was fine, However I continued to lose and now total weight loss is 2 stone 2 lb with 6 inches off of my waist (as well as inches off elsewhere) and I’ve gone down a dress size. It was easy to do with the app, I haven’t used it since May except to update my wight and measurements. I never thought I could do it and I’m so proud of myself that I’ve achieved my aim and more.

How absolutely horrible. Weight/size/food is a complex issue for very many women.
namaste, nice name, nasty message.
Another 16:8er. I couldn't stick to 5:2. However, am needing to motivate myself as have stalled somewhat. I've lost 2.5 st overall. 2 off, half on, another off, etc I need to lose same again.
I've joined a gym off peak and had an appointment with a PR to do a round on machines to start me off. I do Pilates which is healthy but exersise alone is not great for losing the lbs.
I hope to keep to 16:8, throw in occasional 500-800 cal days. I don't drink alcohol which helps. Sugar out too.
I'm doing it on my own but did go to fat clubs in the past. Slimming World first amazing, lost 3 stone. The right leader makes a difference. Did WW, R Conley too.
Good luck with it. It's such a lifelong hassle
Yes, 5:2 worked for me. Years ago, when it came out, I read 'French Women don't get fat' and amazingly I lost some weight afterwards without trying - the book must have had some sort of subconscious effect on me!
The Keto diet has worked very well for me in the past, but I find I have to have the mental energy to start watching what I eat. I take medication that causes increases in weight gain and also have the typical ‘moon’ face that comes with taking steroids. I have had zero exercise for more than two months now, since becoming ill, and because I am home alone during the week my husband has been stocking up with ready meals for me so I only have to put them in the microwave.
When I’m better (it took me 7 months to recover from this illness the last time) I shall need to be very determined to lose weight again, but for now I’m just embracing my circumstances and waiting for my get up and go to come back and energise me.
Try Joe Wicks 90 Day Plan. Easy, tasty recipes.
There are a number of the exercises I can’t do because of dodgy knees but I
just adapt them to suit.
I’ve lost a stone and back into a size 10. I’ve so much more energy too!
Quizzer - that was my experience too. I could not get on with the slimming clubs for this reason. The leaders need a proper nutritional training. As someone who has always been interested in nutrition, I was horrified that they knew almost nothing.
horrible title- I have to say.
I'm with SD and the 16:8. I lost 4 stones slowly over a year and never put any of it back on. Truly think that was due to losing it slowly and not crashing into huge amounts too quickly. My motivation was the news of a forthcoming first grandchild. The health benefits have been wonderful; more than I'd ever reckoned. I'm still vigilant but actually weight seems to stay constant. Recommend it to anyone.
Try looking at keto and 52 fasting. Keto has a good reputation according to the people who actually do it. Names to watch are Prof Tim Noakes and Zoe Harcombe.
jura, t'was a pun , a funny.
it is not funny to most people with weight issues, for sure.
jura please take a minute to read the thread, where I describe my life long struggle with weight and abuse from my own family and seeking help.
thanks
