I am contemplating joining up but can I cope with the sheer mindlessness of it?

Please don't tell me to take up running.....that won't be happening.

Yehbutnobut Mon 28-Oct-19 07:57:13

Do you need to? Do you want to?

mumofmadboys Mon 28-Oct-19 08:16:17

Why is it mindless? I don't think it is at all. Health enhancing maybe

mumof....have you been to a slimming club? wink

mumofmadboys Mon 28-Oct-19 08:21:52

No I have never been to a slimming club

NanaandGrampy Mon 28-Oct-19 08:28:12

I have , in fact I still do . I’ve had the best success ever and I’ve sorted on bed off all my life

I’ve finally picked up some good habits, made some nice friends and whilst I don’t really care bout the coping etc I do blur the support .
I’d suggest try it , all you have to lose on an hour of your life if you don’t like it .

Yes, I have been WW.
Counting points during the week and ignoring it at the weekend it’s perfect. No problems keeping to the way of lif3 now, I eat a very healthy diet of whatever I want purely by keeping the running total going loosely in my head now over the week. So that I can eat sticky jam doughnuts and whatever I want just learned how to moderate after loosing.
It takes a couple of months but you get support and if it’s what YOU want it works. Good luck.

EllanVannin Mon 28-Oct-19 08:33:31

Regular brisk walking is better for you.

grapefruitpip Mon 28-Oct-19 08:39:02

Oh Ellen, I love a walk.....would that it were so simple.

OK if you are a sociable type of person which I'm not. So if you like the idea go for it, if it makes you cringe forget it. You might want to go for just a while to learn some healthy ways to loose weight and keep it off.

Hi grapefruitpip, a few questions...are you overweight? do you know what a healthy eating plan is? are you unfit?

I have attended and run many slimming clubs over the years,
but there`s a recurring pattern...I lose...I gain...I lose, I gain....

Yes, I do know what healthy eating is, but I love cakes, chocolate and bread..

All ok in moderation....that`s the problem....moderation

If you need support, clubs do that...but they don't have a magic wand. You need to be ready to follow their advice or it wont work!

I honestly read the thread title as 'Eat Club' and rather liked the sound of that. Thought it would be about favourite recipes!

travelsafar Fri 01-Nov-19 12:56:46

If only i could walk properly and briskly. Now i hobble to the bus stop and hobble round the town then back to the bus stop or i use the car if i am in a lot of pain and cant even manage the walk to the bus stop!!!!. This morning the pain is horrendous due i think to the dampness of the air.

boobymum ( nice name)......I have never been slim and hovered around a sort of size 12/14. Many , many attempts at weight loss. Bullied by family members over " me size" . Vile creatures.

I would love to be body positive but post menopause I gained a good 2 stone. I have more or less decided I can't stand one of those clubs. So like a lot of women, I will plod on.

Look at these women on this site!

I have put on lots of weight since being ill. Most of it ties in with medications.
I was skinny before.

I tried an eating plan my GP wanted me to try and I lost some weight but ended up with severe stomach pain so I stopped and now I am even bigger.

I think that it is true that dieting makes you fatter.

I do need to lose weight though so wandering what to do . Some years back I did the 5:2 and slowly lost some weight. That stopped when I went on new painkillers.

Does anyone here follow that way of eating?

BladeAnnie Sat 02-Nov-19 09:29:19

Myself and my partner are doing the 5:2 plan but only doing 6:1. Ie eating normally but sensibly for 6 days and only around 500 calories one day. This is working for us - I have lost over a stone in 10 weeks and my partner has lost more. Definitely worth a try

pen50 Sat 02-Nov-19 09:34:49

I try to do 16:8 (-ish); I stick to coffee, tea, and water during the day and then eat a decent-sized meal in the evening. I fall off the wagon from time to time - my partner loves porridge served with fruit and cream - but generally it's enough now to maintain my weight at a bit more than it should be.

Losing weight however is much, much, more difficult sad.

Keeper1 Sat 02-Nov-19 09:41:22

I know what I should do, it’s doing that is the trouble......

Minshy Sat 02-Nov-19 09:45:38

Try the 5.2 diet!
It’s working for me.
Look it up

NotSpaghetti Sat 02-Nov-19 09:48:56

We do the 5/2 and my husband lost lots of weight on it.
I am the same (overweight) person I was 5/6/7 years ago when we started it!
He is never very hungry the day after a low-calorie day. I on the other hand could eat a horse before breakfast!

Matelda Sat 02-Nov-19 09:50:54

After my knee replacement I really needed to take action to save the other one. I have managed to lose two and a half stone since January using Jane Plan (there are others). 28 days supply of food (breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack - all chosen by the customer from an extensive menu) is delivered vacuum packed and doesn’t need freezing or even to be kept in a fridge. It’s not cheap - £200 a month plus a few bits of veg and berries - but in any case it saves slimming club subscriptions which do mount up. I can’t see myself ever coming off this eating plan as when I reach my target I shall simply supplement it with extra, healthy food. Unopened, the food lasts for up to a year, and if I’m eating out or away, then I can postpone the next delivery by a week or two. I think it’s an ideal eating plan for an older person like myself who isn’t catering for others. This is the best diet plan I’ve ever been on, and I’m an old hand now as a doctor gave me my first diet sheet on 1957.

Grannyjacq1 Sat 02-Nov-19 09:51:53

I agree with Minshy and NotSpahetti above - the 5.2 diet is great and so easy to stick to - especially if you don't have to cook for a family. DH and I have both been doing this for about 7 years now and it's so easy when you're both in it together.

SueDoku Sat 02-Nov-19 09:55:44

I've been doing 16:8 for about 18 months and have dropped two dress sizes smile I'd like to drop another size, but obviously, the rate of loss has got slower...
It's the first time that I've actually found a way of life that I can stick to - because you can eat whatever you like (remembering that six cream cakes a day will result in less weight loss) grin
I feel so much healthier - much less breathless, my knees don't hurt all the time - it's wonderful.
