This was the unexpected result of my annual blood test as I'm on medication. Has anybody come across this? Googled it and of course it says marker for cancer! The GP said to repeat after Christmas.

Borderline results can right themselves so I wouldn't be too worried at this stage. High platelets can be anything other than cancer as even stress can have an effect on the body and its workings, so wait until the New Year and in the meantime try not to worry.

Bear in mind that it is 'borderline high platelets' not 'high platelets' So it means that you are at the top of the normal range not over the edge into red flag territory.

So if by any chance there was a problem, it will have been caught very very early.

I have high platelets had them quite a while but despite thorough investigations by st Thomas' they have ruled out all nasties. I do have an auto immune condition that plays havoc with my blood but after all the tests they've run I feel quite happy that I'm not about to drop dead. There are always anomalies that can't be explained. Mine are not borderline they are high so try not to worry.

Thank you all. To the rescue as always! I'm usually a cool headed person but this has thrown me as I didn't expect it.
