Anyone have Gastritis

I was just going to suggest low fodmaps. I don't have gastritis but do have IBS and cutting out the high fodmap foods has brought it pretty much under control. I certainly can't eat wheat but there are alternatives around these days so I wouldn't risk it. There is always something waiting to catch you out but it is well worth the hassle as far as I'm concerned.

Certain medications can cause gastric problems. What cures one complaint starts another so it ends as a toss-up between suffering with one problem or the other whichever's the worst.

This year I made lots of blackberry syrup, just hedgerow berries and minimal sugar , simmered and strained through a sieve. When cool I put it into 500ml bottles, and froze them. Every week a have one, on porridge or made into drinks, or just a spoonful, it's so nice! I found this to be most effective against my gastritis, as I am much more comfortable now than I have been for a few years.

Perhaps your gastritis wouldn't work with low fodmaps then 3dognight. If I remember rightly blackberries are high fodmap, in this case, high fructose. The "f" in fodmap stands for fermentable so the sugars in those who can't digest these short-chain carbs just ferment rather than are digested - not good as you can guess.

I have gastritis. Never heard of fodmap
Will google. I stopped taking pills after a few years thinking it was cured and have stomach problem being investigated. Doctor said I shouldn't have stopped. Just thought I'd mention it.

I'm afraid I abit ignorant of fodmaps, I will have to have a look online. I suppose if blackberries workfor me, then that's good, but it's not for everyone I realise.

I might have gastritis, or an ulcer, self diagnosed. Occasionally get episodes where my stomach feels empty even after food, that is is churning. But as it's not all the time I haven't had it checked. Worried about having to have an endoscopy.

I have gastritis, (among other medical problems) - don't know the cause, but it was confirmed after tests 2 years ago.
I have a long term prescription for Lansoprazole - to take as required.
I'm nearly 84, so if I don't go from one thing, I'll go from one of the others.

Bluesky I'm worried about endoscopy too. The thought of swallowing a thick tube doesnt bear thinking about. Probably have to give in and have it soon. My niece assures me it's ok, that I'll survive.? She prefers it to a colonoscopy. I've had two of those and not a problem. I will post how it goes.

Oh annepl you too! Would you have it done with the sedation as well as the throat spray? I'm trying to get myself prepared in case it'll come to that.

BlueSky I had one a few years ago when I was diagnosed with gastritis. I was so nervous that my BP went up so I was given a general anaesthetic and I remember nothing apart from the injection..
But it seems that is not on offer now. I don't like the idea of something that stops you remembering the test even though you're still awake. So I don't think I would have that. When I pluck up courage I think I will talk to the consultant again first and ask for more detail. Rather than just ring his secretary to book it. I'm such a coward. I can just about swallow omeprazole so the thought of a thick tube and gagging.......!

Yet we gave birth! I know what you mean though. Even at the dentist's holding the thing between my teeth when having an ex-ray makes me gag. I have had an endoscopy and had to just steel myself and pretend it wasn't happening. I had the spray.

Annep1 I feel like you exactly! Don't like the idea of a sedative where I won't remember what went on! And yet like Ginny I have minimal work done at the dentist (I won't have cosmetic) because even being in the chair with stuff in my mouth makes me very uncomfortable!

I'm not quite as bad as that Bluesky although I had having a crown made (hence a gap where J got a faulty crown removed)

I think as Ginny said we will just have to grin and bear it. Will let you know...soon ..I hope.?

When I had the endoscopy I didn't have any sedative etc.
It was very uncomfortable and makes you want to 'gag' but was over very quickly. I squeezed the nurse's hand hard.
