Cardiac ablation, advice needed

Hi eeci, my friend has has had two of them. I don't know about the" wee" issue as that was never discussed, but I do know she was kept in on both occasions overnight. She recovered very well, think her worst problem was pain in her groin, where they went in to get at her heart muscle. She had a pre op discussion which was very thorough and also the contact details for the specialist nurse. I hope you have had it by now or at least not too long to wait

Hi ecci53 as it's a 5 hr procedure + 5hr recovery I'm guessing that you'll have a catheter in. Double check with them anyway but try not to worry. Good luck with your op and please let us know how you get on.

Please do ask the cardiac team - there is bound to be a specialist nurse whom you can phone. He/she will be up to speed on all the details like the weeing issue. I know that some places put in a urinary catheter to drain urine during the procedure - but you do need to speak to the team at your hospital and see how they manage this. This is their job - to make sure that you understand what is going to happen and to support you throughout. I am sure they would be happy to hear from you.

I too get AF now and again and I know about the weeing!!

Have you had a leaflet or letter giving you instructions about eating and drinking beforehand?
