I've developed a dry cough. I'm worried.

Rosiebee Sat 21-Mar-20 10:18:11

Went out on Thurs am to visit a friend and felt fine. Checked temperature before I went and It was normal.By evening I had the dry cough and temperature of 100. Stayed in bed most of yesterday with water and paracetamol. Temperature started to go down but this morning it's back up. Feels like a dose of flu but am assuming it's the virus. When will I know it's finished? DH and I are now sleeping in different rooms as I'm restless but otherwise not keeping away from each other as I've probably already given it to him. Feeling really miffed as I rarely get anything and have now lost my status of being "a bit of an old boot"hmm

Cough has gone. Must be OK for now!

Will have been back in the UK a week on Monday. Two weeks on the 30th. Countdown to the all clear. Fingers and everything else crossed.

son just e mailed, he suspects that he had it, several of the symptoms and some difficulty breathing. He said it was mild, that he is not sure and was saving his paracetamol in case it was not covid-19. Both are self isolating for 14 days. It will be good then the antibody test is released. He is the one AC I worried about most, I so hope it was the virus

Thanks for all those who are concerned. I don't feel any worse than I did earlier. Fingers crossed it's just a cough.

I have been using my steroids inhaler. I'll have a puff 3 or 4 times a day. Thanks for the advice!

Gagajo There was a dr on Jeremy Vine answering calls and she advised a man with asthma (never bothers with inhaler) to use the inhaler regularly as it manages your asthma. She said this was very important whether you feel the need to or not. Don’t panic but ring 111 or 999 if you start to struggle with your breathing. Far, far more people recover from this than don’t even in older people. Take care.

Thanks for the concern Loopyloo, symptoms are getting less and I am able to get out into the fresh air in the garden, which again helps, it’s nice to see the spring plants blooming.

'Yes, of course. But my school is closed so I couldn't stay there.'
----

I take it you reside on the school premises Gagajo.

Is it a boarding school, if so just think of the spread that just that one school has possibly spread COVID 19.

It's frightening isn' t it knowing your Headmaster has been confirmed as having the virus.

POGS Thu 19-Mar-20 17:34:44

Whitewave

You like Steve Walker a lot don't you.

Haven't seen a link to him for ages.

EllanVannin Thu 19-Mar-20 15:42:35

I'd rather be tested for anti-bodies to see if my immune system is up to scratch then I can relax.

Something to give us some help

Davidhs. Are you ok have you been able to get paracetamol? Is there someone you can contact to get you some?
It sounds very like the virus to me. Please take care.

Follow your asthma plan now Gaga. I hope you have been taking your preventer. Try not to let your breathing get out of hand by using your reliever. And if it does become difficult get help immediately.

GagaJo Thu 19-Mar-20 14:53:41

I have asthma and my breathing feels a bit 'off'. Not bad, not restricted but a little tight.

111 is an online service now. You go through the stages with it and it advises you whether to phone an ambulance or not.

I'm not going to at the moment, but I will if it gets any worse.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 19-Mar-20 14:46:45

gaga it seems to develop very quickly once you have the cough and by day 5 you should be feeling better, but if you aren’t and your breathing is compromised then it’s time to dial 111

GagaJo Thu 19-Mar-20 14:45:06

I brought one case back. I will have to go back at some point to collect the rest of my stuff, but I don't think that will be anytime soon.

Other than the airport and the plane (which is a lot, I know) I've seen no one other than family.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 19-Mar-20 14:41:52

Gagajo Bugger!!!!

Bathsheba Thu 19-Mar-20 14:23:06

Oh lord Gaga, that's not good news for you is it? And possibly for anyone else you have come into contact with since leaving Switzerland. This is exactly how this thing spreads, unsuspecting people out and about, travelling sad

MawB Thu 19-Mar-20 14:22:43

It would have been a tricky one.. hmm
Have you left all your stuff there?

GagaJo Thu 19-Mar-20 14:05:50

Yes, of course. But my school is closed so I couldn't stay there.

MawB Thu 19-Mar-20 13:47:56

Beginning to regret flying hone and (possibly) spreading it on the plane, in the airport, at home Gagajo ?

GagaJo Thu 19-Mar-20 13:40:59

Just had email from my headmaster. He's tested positive. He was in school until Monday.

Davidhs Thu 19-Mar-20 13:00:23

Missfood. That was Sunday, it’s got much worse since, no paracetamol anywhere in town now. Food won’t bother me I’ve got lots of homegrown veg in the freezer. Supermarkets have ramped up orders there should be no shortage next week.

ArtySue Thu 19-Mar-20 12:51:23

Bathsheba, thank you for the virtual hug. smile

grannyticktock Thu 19-Mar-20 12:28:07

If your cough produces mucus it's not the virus.

There is no testing available now for people with uncomplicated symptoms, so no way for them to be sure whether they've had cv and are now likely to be immune or not. Also no way to assess the prevalence and spread of the virus in the community - only the severe cases are tested and counted, which could make the percentage death-rate appear much higher. You'd think they'd at least have some method of self-diagnosing and keeping count, rather than completely ignoring cases who stay at home with mild symptoms.

Davidhs, Great that you told us another thread you had been to Waitrose and got some wine on offer.
I really cannot believe you he selfish attitude of some people.
