The Vaccine

Has everyone made up their minds about the vaccine yet?

I an 83 so in what is possibly the second group to be offered it.
I just cannot make a decision about whether or not to accept.

I have always had the flue jab, had pneumonia one and shingles, so why am I so undecided about this?

I have spoken to several friends in the same age group and they are all eager to go ahead, in fact one is champing at the bit and says he will be first in the queue.

Any thoughts ?

When I was offered the shingles vacine I questioned whether it was necessary for me to have it as I had had shingles a few years previously. I was told that was all the more reason I should have it.

Well said! You reminded me; If I can learn to inject myself, and even was taught to take blood from Autistic people when I worked as a Psychologist on a molecular genetic study of Autism, then those people giving the injections will be fine!

Thanks Tweedle, very reassuring.

Wow! I'm surprised Bill Gates isn't being accused of manufacturing the virus in the first place! hmm

grandtanteJE65 Tue 24-Nov-20 13:20:01

Please, would someone explain why on earth anyone would hesitate to have the vaccine?

There are reputable firms and universities behind it, so why hesitate?

I shall certainly have it as soon as possible and DH too.

growstuff Tue 24-Nov-20 13:21:29

Tillybelle Where's your evidence that Bill Gates is involved in the Oxford lab? I have a close friend, a professor of biochemistry at another university, who contributed to the research. I'll ask him about Bill Gates, but I'd like to know how you claim he's involved.

Well I won’t be joining the queue.
I’m not anti vax. I’ve had everything going but they were all long established vaccinations.
I prefer to wait to see how many of you get side effects.

That's nice. How long are you going to wait?

lemsip Tue 24-Nov-20 13:31:49

I have the flu jab each year. Yesterday I had the Shingles one that is a one off. No side effects.. I shall certainly have the vaccine one also!

If a person doesn't take up the offer who do they think will want to nurse them if they should get corona virus?

Shazzyp Tue 24-Nov-20 13:33:27

Agree onthenaughtystep1 ! Im not anti-vac either but I also wont be having the vaccine.

Great! There always has to be somebody who's first to have any medical intervention. Nice of you to think of others! hmm

Shrub Tue 24-Nov-20 13:52:40

I shall definitely have it!

Alegrias2 You are doing a good job, keep it up ?

cupcake1 Tue 24-Nov-20 14:08:08

DH and I will be having it as soon as we can no question!! I cannot believe some posts on here and certainly cannot believe the conspiracy theorists who spread such utter nonsense. Really?! alegrias2 totally agree with your posts!

The efficacy of vaccination is dependent upon a high take up by the population. I think that, unless a person has a condition which makes them unsuitable, having the vaccine is a matter of necessity to protect everyone. It will be a time to “stick our courage to the sticking post” and get on with it!

I’ve looked for the answer to this and can’t find it - does anyone know - the AZ vaccine was 90% effective with the one and a half dosage and only 60% effective with the two full doses. Although the number of subjects in the first group was about one third (2700) of those in the second group (8000+) the results for both groups were statistically significant. My question is - if we are offered the AZ one, will it be the more effective dose?

Never in a million years.

Am totally anti vax and never had my children vaccinated, they're now healthy adults with their own children who also, have not been vaccinated.

I come from a 'medical' family.

Lilyflower Tue 24-Nov-20 14:29:35

My daughter who is 29 has a friend who is immunocompromised. He is having to undergo two lots of chemotherapy this December and neither he nor his partner will be able to leave their house at all for months. If he catches Covid-19 - he has been told by medics - he will die. He cannot have the vaccine.

If others refuse to have the vaccine and herd immunity cannot be reached then young people (and older folks) like my daughter's friend will have their lives severely constricted.

It is worth considering cases like this when the risk to the general healthy population is small to negligible.

Well you clearly know nothing about statistics.

Applegran Tue 24-Nov-20 14:41:50

Yes! So will Mr Apple! We can't wait! And I cannot see any of us being asked which vaccine we would prefer - far too complicated - and any safe effective vaccine will free us to get back to something like normal. Bring it on.............!

Fletcher1 Tue 24-Nov-20 14:48:43

Most definitely let’s get on with it

Singlegrannie Tue 24-Nov-20 14:48:48

I will be having it.

Anneishere Tue 24-Nov-20 14:49:12

I feel I will be having a vaccination. I do have heart disease and diabetic. My mum who is aged 89 is quite fit for her age albeit arthritis- osteoporosis but still mobile with a stick plus a diagnosis of mild dementia I feel should also have the vaccination.I am the eldest of 5 siblings. One of my brothers and one of my sisters who are both over 60 are against the vaccination. My younger brother also over 60 I am not sure what he thinks. However let’s say if they don’t have the vaccination chances are they will not be allowed into the football stadium (we are all Tottenham supporters lol ) My other sister also over 60 says she will have it as she wants to travel to New Zealand to see her grandchildren. I do believe also we will have to have some form of documentation/ stamped passport to confirm we have had a vaccination as there may be some venues that will require this information / or for travelling abroad etc.

Sometimes I feel that Nowadays people have forgotten how lucky we are not to be plagued by those old diseases of polio, smallpox, diphtheria, measles, rubella, whooping cough, chicken pox etc etc etc.... we have anti-vaxxers who don't want to know of past horrors.”

I read how people lived before many deadly viruses- people really did have it tough! So many people and children dropping down dead - but then vaccinations appeared and people’s lives greatly improved.

Sparklefizz Tue 24-Nov-20 14:51:53

naughtynanny As you've quoted "aluminum" with the American spelling, and not "aluminium", I guess you're quoting a US conspiracy theory. You mention Google - surely you don't believe everything on there?

Ziggy1914 Tue 24-Nov-20 14:56:58

I will not be having it done it takes along time for a vaccine to be safe do your research top scientists have been coming forward and doctors saying it alters your DNA
