What decade were your grandparents born?
Desperately sad story of the assisted suicide of a grieving mother
What's going on , on the street outside your home right now?
support, understanding and sharing for all mental health
troubles .
nonnie we posted at same time, oh nonnie the time in the garden was wonderful x
Hi all x
polomint. I so understand about acceptance re your husband’s hip, I have to accept severe arthritis, across the Cul de sac from my bungalow lives a man, ‘never met him’ , have
learned he was in the army, developed MS, his wife left him, has no family and completely dependent on carers. The thought of having to accept all that !
Joyce you are not alone with love of lighter lights, light and lack of it does play a part in some forms of depression
Now me ! , the occupational therapist called yesterday, did a thorough check of my muscles and joints, concerned i was still sleeping on sofa. She is asking for the enablement dept to give
support with walking and going out on Alfie.
I went down my garden on Alfie, right to the bottom, it was wonderful feeling the breeze. The next step is to go out into the Cul de sac, so I now have to cope with the agoraphobia again.
Polomint sorry about the DH hip. So good of you to reconcile yourselves to it so quickly.
Doodle perhaps DH thought it was his 'youthful' looks but I doubt it
Joce no, not a lot, good thing my devices update themselves as I don't seem to even know what date it is at the moment!!
Annie waiting with baited breath to hear if the OT turned up and you and Alfie went out.
No Nonnie news today
Morning all, is everyone looking forward to the clocks altering..
I know I am, I aways look forward to the light nights..
have a good day all ?
Annie what wonderful news about your DGD. So pleased for them and you. Is it near to where you live. How exciting.
How are you and Alfie getting on?
Joce at least when you are plodding you know we are all here plodding along too. You are not on your own. Good news about the hypnotherapy.
Nonnie I have never tried Amazon for groceries before. I bet it took your DH back a bit to be asked for his driving license. He must look very youthful ?
polomint accepting what you can’t change is probably the best way forward. Is he in much pain, is there anything they can do to help him get as much use as possible?
That is good news * annie* that your granddaughter has a house now and even a spare bedroom.for you whenever you want. That is uplifting news. Aa change of surroundings is good for the soul
My husbands hip will never heal according to consultant today but he and I can live with it. Better to have some type of life as none at all we have both decided. Now we know the score, we just have to accept things, stay positive and find joy in simple things
Hope all the black dogs have as good a day as they can. It is nice to hear good news from others and my thoughts are with those who are sad and fearful at this time
sacrdycat sounds like you have a caring GP, must help a lot. The added worry about the cat is very stressful. Don't know anything about AF, will it get better over time? Will it get worse?
Joce what is 'hypnosis finger'? Must have missed where you told us before at one of the points I could cope with coming on here.
Oh annie you got all mentally geared up and then the OT let you down. Grrrr,
Such good news about the GD, is she far from you?
I have a laugh to share with you all. Yesterday DH decided to try Amazon Prime Morrison's home delivery, it was excellent. The man was polite and efficient and then asked to see DH's driving licence because he was not allowed to give him the wine until he had seen it. No, I am not married to a toy boy
.
Hi all x
Didn’t join you yesterday, lot going on, exciting and cheesed off .
Occupational therapist didn’t turn up, am hoping she made a mistake in the day and she will come today.
Elder granddaughter and partner have been trying to buy a house for nearly a year, things kept blocking the sale. Yesterday it came to a check on the boiler and the electrics, waiting all day for results. Then came - we are moving next Monday and there will be a bedroom for you to stay whenever you want. I dissolved in tears.
Joyce keep positive my love x
nonnie your verse took me back to age 7, I sang it in a Chapel ‘Band Of Hope’ service, I was terrified standing alone in the pulpit. x
Doodle good that you had good news x
Scaredycat hope your GP was able to allay your fears, sorry to learn about your cat, we love out pets so much x
polomint how are you ? X
Hi all, scaredycat im plodding on thank you for asking.
My hypnosis fingers crossed is going ok up to now don’t want to Tempt nothing but I’m feeling positive..
Annie have you been whizzing round on Alfie hope so...
hope everyone has a good night sleep..
polomint how is your DH getting on. Is movement getting any better?
I have never heard of an optician visiting either. Hope your DH is pleased with his new glasses when they arrive.
Nonnie thank you for your kind thoughts and the quote. It is true, a little light makes all the difference.
Annie hope you are making some progress with Alfie. A little basket on the front may be useful even if not stocked with goodies as per Nonnie’s idea.
Scaredycat I am so sorry to hear your cat is not well. Hope the test results are ok. Nice to have a chat with your DD. Sorry about the AF again. Hope you have a good sleep tonight and feel better in the morning.
Hi everyone
Hi Annie- love the name Alfie for your scooter and love his namesake too. It’s a big day today for you and Alfie hope your occupational therapist has got you started. I love hearing you speak in such a positive way about outdoors and garden plans.
Nonnie- sorry you have some difficult things to deal with- good to hear though that you are coping.
You,re going to be busy after your second jab- new hearing aid,new glasses, teeth sorted!!! You,ll be all set for Summer then.? Great news re your DH new knee too bet he can’t wait.
Doodle- glad you,ve had some good news and yes just enjoy today’s good feelings.
Joce- hope you are ok today.
The last couple of days have been difficult. AF has been a pain but had good talk with Doc who did his best to help with my fears. We had to take our cat back to the vet as he needed blood tests and he is hardly eating. He has Arthritis too and is not very well at all. Just waiting for results. Feeling anxious and shaky and a bit worn out. But got out for a walk as missed 2 days and was able to have a little chat with my daughter at a distance as she has some days holiday off work. Made me feel better.
Polomint,Bluesky,Nanny8 and all in BDG enjoy the rest of your dayxx
Annie that all sounds positive. Is Alfie charged now?
A friend sent an image of a golf cart 9lloked like a scooter0 yesterday (can't seem to copy it) with an airline type trolley attached, it was full of snacks and drinks. Made me laugh and think of you 'pimping up' Alfie
Doodle hang on to the bit of light, make it last. Coincidence but this came into my mind this morning and I thought it appropriate for us all at this time:
Jesus bids us shine with a clear, pure light,
Like a little candle burning in the night;
In this world of darkness, we must shine,
You in your small corner, and I in mine.
Polomint it must depend on where you live because DH only gets phone physio which is not a lot of help. Fortunately DS has given him equipment and exercises and, most importantly, the time to talk about it online.
I need new glasses and don't mind going to the optician for a test but they insist on new frames and I don't want to try on ones that everyone else has tried on.
After we have had our second vaccination I plan to go on a spending spree, optician, hearing aid company and dentist!
Hi everyone. I agreeannie that if you dont have an nhs physiotherapist that you should have a private one to visit you at home. We have been reasonably lucky that an nhs one comes to my husband to give him exercises for his broken hip. He only comes every 3 weeks and we did consider going private in case he could give him further exercises as I would prefer him to be seen every week.
I didn't realise that an optician can come for house visits to give an eye test either. You live and learn. Upshot is that he ordered 2 new pair of bi vocals and hes quite pleased. Hope all the black dogs have a good day
Annie so pleased you like your new lady. Must be a comfort to know someone will pop in every day. Does she do weekends too
Nonnie good news about the jab and the date for your DHs knee. That should lift the spirits.
Bluesky I hope you get to visit Australia again. I can imagine with family so far away and not being allowed to travel must be so hard.
I had a bit of light in my life today. A bit of good news on my family member that I worry about. Every day can be different but I am going to accept this bit of happiness today and try and have a relaxing evening.
Take care all x
Hi all x
I am late today, how is everyone ?
Great you have having your second jab nonnie
BlueSky sorry you are sad, I miss seeing my mini tornado, I can imagine how you feel with your family so far away, sending you a cwtch x
polomint how are you ?
Doodle yes I like my new care worker very much, it’s a pleasure to see her every morning- makes a change after the past six weeks.
Occupational therapist calling tomorrow to help me get use to
Alfie and I have an appointment next week with a private physiotherapist, she will make a home visit, I really need advice on regaining strength in my leg muscles.
BlueSky you sound down so
Oh annie I love the idea of you going out for a ride with Alfie! You could listen to his music when you go out and enjoy his company. I have been to his concerts. Never met him but a close friend is one of his best friends and she said he is a really lovely man so take him with you and enjoy.
Thanks for asking Doodle, not bad, not good. Some difficult situations to deal with at the moment but coping. How are you?
The good news is that we are booked for our second vaccination on Friday. Our local surgery is well ahead of most other areas and phones us to book rather than expect us to go online. We can walk to the vaccination centre too. DH now has a date for his new knee, came much quicker than the media would have us believe, less than 6 months after seeing the consultant.
Notinthemanual thank you for your kind though in posting the link here. My DH does a lot of future learn and enjoys new things.
nanna8 I didn’t realise you were in Australia. Do you need gas fires there ? ?
Nonnie how are you today?
Hello Bluesky nice to hear from you again. Hope you are doing ok.
Annie I’m so pleased you like your new lady. Someone you know coming in every day will be a big help.
Alfie a great name. I really like it. Hope you both get on well with each other.?
polomint hope the sun has shine in you today too.
Take care all x
Yes Alfie is a nice name for your scooter*annie*...its a friendly sounding name I think.
Glad the spring sunhinehas cheered you and others up a bit
Hi all x
Enablement team finished their six weeks. My new care worker started today, I like her very much.
My new mini scooter has finally got a name - Alfie, I was listening to Alfie Boe and thought - yes I like Alfie ?
How is everyone? Has start of Spring made some difference ? It has for me, I have been thinking about new shrubs and seating for the front of the bungalow, perhaps someone will stop for a chat.
Morning all x I haven’t been on the BDG recently but I’ve been elsewhere on the site giving my tuppence’ worth.
I don’t thank God nor do I ask for things, as I don’t believe in one.
Annie glad you were able to go back to what you know, your mini scooter, you may not even have wanted to use the new style power chair, as sadly happened to my MiL. Let’s hope Spring is really round the corner!
Nanna8 nice to see you on here. Getting a bit sad at the moment as I used to come over to Australia to spend the Easter holidays with my DC and DGC. As I’m not getting any younger, when I’m low I wonder whether I’ll ever be able to visit again. So glad I did when I could!
Scaredycat sorry to hear you are plagued by AF. I had some episodes of fast heart beating once due to change in bp medication and it was quite unpleasant.
Thanks for mentioning me Doodle very kind.
I’ll say bye now, have a pleasant afternoon all x
Welcome Nanna8. Coincidence? That is the fourth time in 24 hours I have seen a reminder to thank God. Yes, I do thank Him, despite all that has happened I am still thankful for so much.
Suggest you get a carbon monoxide detector. You have reminded me to check if our battery has run out!
Thanks scardycat wish I had hung on to them but a lack of sleep drove them away. I'm OK just very tired.
It sounds as if you cope rather well with the Afib and have come to terms with it. Good for you.
Joce
Annie counting down to when you can use MF. Wednesday? Hope you've warned the locals that learner granny will be practising on the pavements
Thanks Scaredycat and Doodle for the welcome. Home again now and just listening to a rather scary news item about gas fires after a lady died from carbon monoxide poisoning in her own home. Make sure you get your gas fire checked every so often!
I haven't read the whole thread, so apologies if someone else has posted the following already.
I do free online courses with Future Learn and the following Cognitive Behaviour Therapy with Older People course was advertised. I haven't joined this three week course, but thought it might be helpful.
www.futurelearn.com/courses/cbt-older-people
Annie so glad that mini Fred is to your liking. Hope the lead comes soon and you can zoom from room to room with ease.
I also hope your new support worker makes life easier for you. Not having so many different people dropping in but having the same person every day should make life more pleasant I would think.
Nonnie I love hearing babies laugh. They have such hearty chuckles. ?
Nanna8 how nice of you to pop in. All are welcome here.
Good to hear you had a lovely time with your DD and DGD ..
Scaredycat sorry to hear you’ve had another long spell of AF.
6 hours is quite a lot. Hope things are better today and you have an enjoyable walk in the sunshine.
Ooh Joce what are you plotting ?. That made me laugh. I take it you meant plodding. Plodding is good enough under the circumstances. Keep your spirits up.
Sleep well all x
No I’m not plotting Doodle I’m quietly plodding ??
