I've got a cold!

But how? Haven't been anywhere, seen anyone and yet I have the sniffles and sneezing. Only been out to walk the dog. Have had a couple of deliveries in the past week but they have been distanced. I thought you needed to have at least some contact to catch a cold?

I had a cold last week and thought the same. No one at work has had a cold, no one at home either, it’s a mystery.
If it’s that easy to catch a cold, I guess it’s just as easy to catch coronavirus.

I always seemed to catch a cold all by myself. No-one in the family or at work had one. Then when the grandchildren were sneezing and coughing all over me I never caught anything! Viruses are a complete mystery to me.

A few years ago I had the 'flu all by myself. I had only been on the bus and to the local shop in the couple of days before, so presume that's where I caught it.

It's in the atmosphere where there are other people especially if you work. You won't find much fresh air circulating indoors.

“Only on the bus and to the local shop” - that one was easy.

The deliveries?

Guess that the deliveries are the answer, but they were so well distanced it didn't seem likely. I have noticed that they are keeping well back now, unlike in the summer.

And I'm always washing my hand!

Is it a cold, covid, or rhinitis caused by an allergic reaction to something? The first two could be if you touched something such as the deliveries - I always sanitise mine or put them in my cold conservatory for several days and wash my hands.
If it’s rhinitis could be from dusting, knitting, even the dog. I get it when I stand in a draught with cold air meeting warm air.

Daisymae that is worrying! My theory this year was that we were not going to catch even one cold but you are the living proof that it is still possible, even without going shopping (masked up)!

"Sniffles and sneezing". It might not be a cold. Some tree pollens are around already - hazel catkins for instance and it won't be long before the birches make their unwelcome contribution. Tree pollen allergy is quite common. I have antihistamines and a very effective nasal spray.

I’ve picked up a nasty sore throat and cough (COVID test was negative). I guess I picked it up from the children at school, but can’t be 100% sure of the source.

My grandchildren have had the usual round of winter colds - despite being kept out of school and away from others for months on end. As has been said, if you can catch a cold, you can't be safe from the virus!
