It’s horrible not being able to get comfortable. Have you plenty of soft pillows to support you in a semi upright position for reading watching tv, posting on gransnet - all the essential activities?!

Sorry everyone, I didn't phone in the end. Don't shout at me!
I'm on pregabalin for nerve pain (only started it a few days ago). I took my dose after I posted.
Anyway, I don't know whether that has done the trick, but it's gone now, well, much improved anyway.
I've also read that lying down makes it worse. So I've now got zero comfortable positions in which to place myself
Thank you so much for your concern and advice. I know that I say this a lot, but you really are very kind.
PS if it happens again I will ring 111. Promise.

If it happened to me I would get to A&E where they have an after hours surgery, they are very good. They have everything they need to check you out even better than your GP would.

Hi everyone.My husband is 80, last few years he has been burping a lot and ‘throat growling’ virtually non stop. Of course I advised a doctors visit but this was a definite no. We have a good diet,nothing spicy. He is very fit for his age,swims and exercises a lot. Has never smoked or drank to excess. I,m thinking maybe this is now becoming a habit and he doesn’t even realise it’s happening. He does it when he’s reading,even when he’s on the phone. But it’s getting on my nerves. I,m worried there is something wrong. Any ideas?

Depending on exactly where the numbness is it could be coming from compressed nerves in your neck.

geekesse It is a serious worry for FC but this isn't going to help except to really scare FC.

Let us know how you get on with 111. You don't want this added to your other health concerns . Good luck with a quick answer.

In defence of Geekese her reply may have been a bit blunt but when you described your symptoms it was my first thought.
Last year my friends partner had a pain in his arm. He didnt think much of it as had caught his arm on a door that day. Woke up next day and had slight numbness/pins and needles. Nothing drastic but not quite right. Hes a bus driver so went to A&E. He had indeed had a stroke. He was in hospital a few days. Hes made a reasonable recovery but weakness to one side and some problems retrieving words. Hes in his early 50s and now has lost his job.
It's not an indication of a stroke I was familiar with.
I'm sure all will be well but please check it out?

Fanny, do get everything checked out as soon as you can, and insist on getting to the bottom of it, my experience is that things generally seem much worse without an official diagnosis, and even if it is something that needs attention, you have caught it early on. I would say try to avoid the temptation of looking things up on t’internet, but then I would be guilty of hypocrisy and might have to follow my own advice!

You seem to have had a really bad run of health problems lately, I do know how this feels, you have my sympathy, hang on in there.

It may be that you just slept awkwardly, but better safe than sorry.

I speak from experience. Many years ago a work colleague complained of numbness and pins and needles in her arm. The next day we were told she had died that night. A few years ago my then gentleman caller complained of the same symptoms, and I begged him to let me call an ambulance, but he was having none of it. He did eventually go to casualty, but not soon enough for them to reverse the brain damage that led to serious one-sided weakness.

Fanny why not phone 111 for advice? I’ve compressed nerves top and bottom of my spine causing similar symptoms so your self diagnosis could be right but it could well be totally wrong. Google isn’t infallible! The best thing in my view for both your anxiety and physical health is to phone 111 and take their advice.

For goodness’ sake, get urgent medical advice. It could be the start of a stroke.

I sometimes get pins and needle spasms in my legs. Up till now I've just regarded it as annoying but maybe I'll mention it next time I see my GP (which, with any luck, might not be for years).
